Five Vintage Disneyland Commercial Blasts from the Past

AOL Travel has culled the depths of YouTube to come up with 5 great Disneyland commercials going all the way back to the 60s (actually a Pepsi commercial but it's completely set in Disneyland). Also included are a 1977 commercial for Space Mountain, 1979 for Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain in the 80s and California Sun - also in the 80s. Here's my favorite of the five:

It may look peacful and fun. But the only way up .... is a long way down!

Vintage Disneyland Photos Photostream on flickr

The following was posted on our Discussion Boards by Dr Hans Reinhardt...

I found an exceptional phtostream of old Disneyland photos on Flickr today that show rare views of the park in its early years. Be sure to check out the pic of the Mickey Mouse Club Circus and the Viewliner brid

The photos go all the way back to the 50s and really are awesome. They show how some things haven't changed hardly at all and somethings are completely unrecognizable. Below is one of my favorites. It was taken sometime in the 50s but the same picture could be taken today and not be all that different.

Video: One of Walt's Last Visits to Disneyland

Recently posted on the Disney Parks You Tube channel...

The footage you are about to see is bittersweet. It shows one of the last times Walt was on film enjoying his park. The day was 44 years ago, July 24, 1966 (Walt died later that year). Walt and New Orleans Mayor Victor Schiro officially opened New Orleans Square. It was the first time since opening day in 1955 that a new land had opened. It was also the only area at the park named after a real city. Guests enjoyed shopping, dining and music, and Pirates of the Caribbean opened the following year.

1964 World's Fair documentary in progress posts video interviews with legendary Imagineers

Filmmaker Ryan Ritchey is working on a on a documentary on the 1964-65 World's Fair in New York City. As many Disney fans know, Disney played a large role in the fair, so they've been getting some great stories from imagineers for the movie. Luckily for us they've started posting some excerpts on their website. The first two are from legendary imagineers Rolly Crump and Bob Gurr (of course LP readers know Bob Gurr from his Designer Times columns on our site). Expect more soon from these and future interviews.

A video look back at Disneyland Christmas Parades

The Official Disney Parks Blog has posted a fun video looking back at Disneyland Christmas Parades of the past year-by-year. Quoted from the site...

The first parade at Disneyland debuted in 1958 and it was called “Christmas in Many Lands Parade.” The name changed in 1961 to “Parade of Toys and Parade of all Nations,” but then switched back to “Christmas in Many Lands Parade” until 1964. The following year it became “Fantasy on Parade” and that was a name that finally stuck for several years. In the 1980’s the park debuted a new paraded called “A Very Merry Christmas Parade” and finally in the mid 1990’s “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” made its way down Main Street U.S.A. Take look at this historical video and enjoy a look back.
