Disney Names George Bodenheimer ESPN Executive Chairman, John Skipper ESPN President
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) President and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Iger announced today that he has named George Bodenheimer Executive Chairman of ESPN, and John Skipper ESPN President and Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks, effective January 1, 2012. The moves continue the Company’s focus on ensuring strategic continuity and succession planning.

ESPN and NFL Reach Eight-Year Extension for Monday Night Football
ESPN has extended their contract with the NFL to broadcast Monday Night Football through the 2021 season. They'll also be extending current NFL-related programming and adding new shows.

Last year's opening round of the Masters pulled in record viewers (5.94 million) as it marked Tiger Woods return to golf after his infidelity made headlines. This year's event pulled in 2.55 million viewers fall below that number and was less than the 2009 and 2008 audiences.

ESPN to Launch New Corporate Blog - March 30
ESPN announced the launch of its new corporate blog site, ESPNFrontRow.com, which will debut Wednesday, March 30. The new blog, to be updated daily, will be managed by the Communications department, and be a collaborative effort among the company's key personnel -- meaning it will feature a variety of voices, opinions, and insights. Topics will focus on ESPN news and people, the employee experience, behind-the-scenes activity and will serve as a platform to address select company issues that are making news. ESPNFrontRow.com will feature a comment-posting functionality to allow two-way communication.

Slacker Personal Radio will offer ESPN Audio content, Slacker Inc announced on March 23rd. Disney-owned ESPN Leads Sports Emmy Noms, NBC's Al Michaels to Get Lifetime Achievement Award
ESPN has received 36 Sports Emmy nominations including 12 for their FIFA coverage, 6 for their E:60 series, 3 for their series Outside the Lines, 2 for the 2010 NBA Draft and 2 for June 17, 1994. NBC's Al Michaels will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award, many Disney fans may recall that the sportscaster responsible for the legendary 1980 Olympic call -- "Do You Believe in Miracles?" was released from his contract with Disney's ABC in trade for the copyright to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit from Universal.
The Awards will be given out at the prestigious Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center on May 2nd, 2011 in New York City.

Beginning April 23rd the full library of Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited will be available via the Starbucks Digital Network’s entertainment channel. According to the press release Customers gain access to the Starbucks Digital Network when they connect to free Wi-Fi at company-operated Starbucks in the U.S. The Starbucks Digital Network content can be accessed with devices on the AT&T network in store by typing the URL starbucks.yahoo.com in browser.

ESPN2's First Take Live from Disney's Hollywood Studios
ESPN2's First Take is being presented live from the Sorcerer's Hat Stage at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Brief clips pre-filmed around Walt Disney World are being showcased throughout the show for example as lead-ins to commercial breaks. The sports talk show features commentary along with one-on-one interviews with sports athletes. In celebration of ESPN the Weekend the show is also asking the athletes for favorite Disney movies or favorite rides. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin shared his 6 year old son is eager to tackle Tower of Terror again this year, a favorite from last year. When asked about a favorite film, Boldin explained his son was into Toy Story but has graduated to DisneyXD.
