Boston: Regent Theatre hosts Boston premiere of Waking Sleeping Beauty
Boston.com is reporting that starting today the Regent Theatre in Boston, MA will be showing Disney's documentary on its second golden age of animation, Waking Sleeping Beauty. It is scheduled to run through July 15th.

On the heels of a successful run in select U.S. theaters, as well as an illustrious showing at American film festivals, Waking Sleeping Beauty will screen for the first time in Europe at the Annecy International Animation Festival, as part of the festival's Official Selection, at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in the Bonlieu Petite Salle.

Waking Sleeping Beauty Makes European Premiere June 8th
Waking Sleeping Beauty will screen for the first time in Europe at the Annecy International Animation Festival, as part of the festival's Official Selection, at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in the Bonlieu Petite Salle.
Waking Sleeping Beauty director Don Hahn (who also produced Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King) will introduce the animation documentary. Immediately following the screening, Don will host a panel discussion and will be joined by special guests, Ron Clements and John Musker (directors of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog)\ who play key roles in the film. A second screening will take place at the festival on Friday, June 11th at 2:00pm in Decavision 1.
Various new screenings have been announced throughout the US as well visit the official site for a screening near you.

Waking Sleeping Beauty to screen in Central Florida April 15 and 17
Waking Sleeping Beauty, Disney's documentary on the second golden age of Disney animation, will be screening at the Florida Film Festival on April 15 and 17. April 15 will be at Regal Winter Park Village A and April 17 at the Enzian Theater. Note: According to the Film Festival website, the second screening is now available as STAND BY ONLY meaning that most seats have been sold in advance and a few seats are being held for festival pass holders. However, additional tickets are often made available prior to the event.

Opening March 26th in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, Waking Sleeping Beauty. From Don Hahn...
Peter Schneider came to me a couple of years ago wanting to tell the story of the animation renaissance of the ‘80s and ‘90s at Disney. So many books and articles had been written about this dynamic and challenging period in Disney history, but we felt the story hadn’t been told with candor and in a way that captured the joy and struggle of the art form. We lived it, and we wanted to tell the story from our perspective — basically put the audience in the rooms and at the tables where we sat, in as realistic a way as possible. To accomplish this, the film is crafted with archival footage, home movies, and raw caricatures most of which have never been seen before. The end result captures the perfect storm of people and circumstances that led to what John Horn of the L.A. Times proclaimed to be “the biggest comeback story in Hollywood history.” For anyone that works in the animation industry, they will probably recognize a lot of faces in the film, and hopefully learn something new about this fascinating period of Disney history. For those who worked at Disney during that time, this is really their story and a celebration of their work.

After a successful festival debut, Waking Sleeping Beauty will begin its theatrical run with limited releases in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco on March 26, 2010. Directed by Don Hahn and produced by Peter Schneider and Don Hahn, Waking Sleeping Beauty was an Official Selection at the 2009 Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and winner of the Audience Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
