"Main Street Electrical Parade" for "Summer Nightastic!" Begins June 6

When the “Main Street Electrical Parade” returns to Magic Kingdom for a limited engagement this summer, the cherished Disney nighttime spectacle will have a new glow.  Tinker Bell will sprinkle her pixie dust to illuminate the classic parade.  The parade’s highly recognizable musical theme will be brightened by new technology. The parade, which normally is featured at Disneyland Resort in California, was last at Walt Disney World Resort from 1999 into 2001.  But as it returns to Magic Kingdom to headline “Summer Nightastic!” June 6 through Aug. 14, 2010, “Main Street Electrical Parade” will be showcasing lots of features never before seen – or heard – in Florida.

Video: Flashback to the Main Street Electrical Parade on the interstate

From the Disney Parks official YouTube Page:

A look back through the Walt Disney World video archives to- 1999 and a night you could've been driving toward Magic Kingdom Park with Pete's Dragon in the lane next to you. In May of 1999, a few weeks before Main Street Electrical Parade started making nightly appearances in Florida, hundreds of cars lined an interstate for an overnight road test. Many of the Main Street Electrical Parade vehicles and cars driven by Walt Disney World cast members joined a ceremonial caravan toward the park. It was quite a sight. See for yourself!

Main Street Electrical Parade debuted in Anaheim at Disneyland back in 1972 and after a 24-year run, closed in 1996. In May 1999, after technical and electrical upgrades, Main Street Electrical Parade made the move to Magic Kingdom, just in time for the start of the Millennium Celebration. Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade begins a limited engagement for Summer Nightastic! at Walt Disney World beginning June 6 and continuing through Aug. 14.

Disney’s Newest Royalty, Princess Tiana, to Debut at Magic Kingdom

Starting Oct. 26, Magic Kingdom guests will be treated to first-ever appearances by Princess Tiana, star of the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film “The Princess and the Frog.” Besides meet and greets with guests, Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and other characters from the motion picture will star in “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!,” a rousing, colorful parade with a jazz-filled Mardi Gras theme.  The good times are guaranteed to roll as festively-dressed, bead-tossing paraders lead Magic Kingdom guests to the Liberty Belle Riverboat dock.

The party moves onboard as the Liberty Belle paddlewheels her way along the river to singing, dancing and all that jazz.  Songs from the film will add to the show, which will be performed 3-4 times daily.
“Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!” also will be performed at Disneyland, beginning Nov. 6.  The experience will run through Jan. 3, 2010, in each park. Princess Tiana as she will appear in Disney parks was recently sneak-previewed for delegates to the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Tampa.

A better WDW Fantasmic!

ScreamScape.com has an admittedly wild rumor that Hollywood Studios' Fantasmic may be in for a major change. An excerpt...

This is just the wild rumor at this point, but we heard from one reader that Disney may be considering some kind of plan to reinvent and improve the WDW version of Fantasmic! Like any good show, I’m sure the producers are always looking for ways to improve it and as the lesser of the two shows, there are many spots for the WDW version of the show fails to impress where the original shines.
