New Street Coming to Walt Disney World Property Plus Art of Animation Sign
Driving through Disney property today I noticed a new street light (not yet in use) and street sign that will be used for access to the Art of Animation resort near Pop Century. The street is called "Animation". In addition, the entrance sign has started construction with a frame visible this morning. See the pics below:

Super Bowl Viewing at Walt Disney World
Super Bowl 46 takes place on Sunday at 6:30p Eastern. Nearly every Walt Disney World resort will be showing the game in some public location with football party menu items available. Among the highlights are:

- Caribbean Beach Banana Cabana Pool Bar will have 2 40" TVs and a giant projector screen

No More USA Today Deliveries at Walt Disney World and Disneyland
Effective January 30th delivery of complimentary USA Todays to the doors of guest rooms at Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort has stopped (except for Signature Suites). Guests can, however, pick up a complimentary newspaper before 1p near the elevators or other designated areas Monday through Friday.

New Art of Animation Resort Room Photos
Disney has released several new photos showing the rooms in the upcoming Art o Animation Resort. Opening in phases begining May 31, 2012, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, inspired by Disney animation, will feature 1,120 family suites themed after “The Lion King,” “Cars” and “Finding Nemo,” and 864 themed rooms in “The Little Mermaid.” Larger-than-life icons, including a 35-foot-tall model of King Triton, will grace the courtyard areas. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be located next to Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

Ground Breaks on Walt Disney World Property Four Seasons Resort
A ceremony was held on December 6th to officially break ground on a 444-room luxury Four Seasons resort to be located on Walt Disney World property. President of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Meg Crofton was on hand for the ceremony. The resort is scheduled to open in 2014. Among the amenities expected at the resort are a rootop restaurant with views of the Magic Kingdom.

Coronado Springs Pepper Market to Test Out Buffet for Breakfast and Lunch
From Dec 4th to January 4th Disney will test running the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs as a true buffet. Breakfast price will be $14.99 for adults and $8.99 for children. Lunch price will be $16.99 for adults and $8.99 for children. In addition, the automatic gratuity will be eliminated and an optional tip line will be added to receipts. Pepper Market will continue to honor the Disney Dining Plan Quick-service Restaurant meal entitlement for breakast, lunch and dinner. During the test the Maya Grill will be closed for breakfast.

Disney World Cancels Plans for Contemporary Resort Wellness Suites
Back in April Walt Disney World announced they would be converting some of the rooms in the Contemporary Resort into Wellness Suites...
These suites will feature bamboo flooring, 100-percent cotton linens, non-allergenic wrapped mattresses – as well as great views of Magic Kingdom Park and Bay Lake. Bathrooms on this floor also will be equipped with rainwater showers and tea tree oils
Guests staying in these suites also can enjoy the benefit of having cardio equipment right in their room. And they’ll have daily access to seasonal and organic fresh foods at the concierge lounge, and can enjoy yoga sessions and spa treatments at the resort’s renovated wellness studio.
Disney has now announced those plans have been modified. The wellness concepts will no longer be included though the refurbishment will go on with most of the design concepts previously shown being utilized. The renovations will take place in 2013.

New Desserts at Beaches and Cream
(posted by Doobie) Beaches and Cream, my absolutely favorite place to eat at Walt Disney World, has added two new desserts. First is a multi-layer chocolate cake. They actually had a chocolate cake before but this new one is larger and much, much better. Second is an apple pie that includes Ocean Spray Craisans. Both are served with a scoop of ice cream. Both desserts were very, very good. I'd even call the chocolate cake great. The only disappointment is they don't have a way to serve the apple pie warm. Beaches and Cream is well known for its ice cream, but with these additions my choice becomes a little bit tougher.
In other menu news, they've also changed their veggie wrap. I didn't like it before and still don't (Rebekah did, though). And prices have inched up on most items as well.

Disney to Close Grand Floridian Spa for 18 Months
The Orlando Sentinel writes about the 18-month closure for the spa at Disney's most expensive hotel, the Grand Floridian, starting September 19th for "a planned renovation". Well this new offering is actually an “adventure” prepared by Captain Jack Sparrow. The story is that Jack was chased by a band of pirates and ducked into your room to hide his treasure. The pirate code states the treasure shall be yours if you can solve the riddles he left behind and find the key to unlock his treasure chest. Then the treasure chest will be yours to do with what you will.

Art of Animation Resort and PO-Riverside Royal Guest Rooms Now Available for Booking
The Official Disney Parks Blog reports Disney's new Art of Animation Resort (opening early Summer 2012) is now available for booking. This new Value resort will feature 800 standard guest rooms and more than 1,100 family suites which sleep up to 6 people. Standard rooms start at $94 per night and family suites start at $248 per night.
In addition, the new Royal Gust Rooms at the Port Orleans Resort - Riverside are also available for booking for stays starting in Spring 2012. Each room will feature regal touches left behind by some of their favorite Disney characters like fiber optics special effects above ornately decorated beds with gold and crystal accents. custom linens and drapes, in-room art and details including princely banners and princess friends. There are 512 Royal Guest Rooms starting at $189 per night.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Celebrates the Royal Wedding from Across the Pond
Hundreds of visitors and guests packed the lobby of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel early Friday morning to celebrate the royal wedding as the Orlando hotel broadcasted the event live on large TV and projection screens. Guests arrived wearing festive hats and tiaras, and carrying Union Jack flags starting at 4:00am.
On display in the lobby was a replica of the 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring Prince William gave to Kate Middleton and a royal tiara, both constructed entirely from sugar by the hotel’s executive pastry chef and two time world pastry champion Laurent Branlard. Guests enjoyed complimentary English-style breakfast items including porridge, scones and grapefruit. Immediately following the ceremony, guests received the traditional English wedding cake, fruit cake.

In Honor of Royal Wedding World Champion Pastry Chef Recreates Royal Jewelry from Sugar
In celebration of the Royal Wedding, two-time world champion pastry chef Laurent Branlard has created sugar replicas of one of Princess Diana’s royal tiaras and the 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring Prince William gave to Kate Middleton to be displayed in the lobby of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel. The ring is the same one Prince Charles presented to Diana for their engagement.
The pieces, which took approximately 30 hours to design and construct, are both entirely made from sugar and are 100 percent edible. They will be on display in the Dolphin lobby for the week leading up to the Royal Wedding. The wedding itself will be broadcast live during a complimentary reception in the hotel’s lobby.
Branlard, who is the hotel’s executive pastry chef, is noted for his sugar sculptures and holds the distinction as the only two-time winner of the World Pastry Team Championship. Branlard captained Team USA to victory in 2008 after previously winning in 2002.
About the Across-the-Pond Royal Wedding Reception at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel:
What: The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel is offering those wishing to witness the royal wedding in a grand setting, but unable to make the trip to London, a chance to experience the next best thing. The hotel will be broadcasting the event live on large screens in the lobby of the Dolphin, allowing guests to gather and enjoy this once-in-a-generation moment together.

Disney World Adds Health and Wellness Suites and Royal Guest Rooms

Beginning this fall, guests looking for some rest and relaxation can indulge in new health and wellness suites, which will debut at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. These suites will feature bamboo flooring, 100-percent cotton linens, non-allergenic wrapped mattresses – as well as great views of Magic Kingdom Park and Bay Lake. Bathrooms on this floor also will be equipped with rainwater showers and tea tree oils.
Guests staying in these suites also can enjoy the benefit of having cardio equipment right in their room. And they’ll have daily access to seasonal and organic fresh foods at the concierge lounge, and can enjoy yoga sessions and spa treatments at the resort’s renovated wellness studio.
Exciting enhancements also are taking place over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, with 512 Royal Guest Rooms planned to debut by March 2012. The story behind these lush rooms is that Princess Tiana (“The Princess and The Frog”) invited some of her royal pals – Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”) and more – for a vacation getaway. Princes and princesses of all ages can enjoy their luxurious lodging quarters, which will include ornate beds that feature headboards with fiber-optic special effects, and gold and crystal accents. Guests also can enjoy artwork and special mementos left by Tiana’s royal friends.

Disney World Expands Free Wi-Fi Test to Grand Floridian and Coronado Springs
In March we reported on Disney starting a test of free Wi-Fi at the Contemporary Resort. Disney has now expanded that test to the Coronado Springs and Grand Floridian. Free Wi-Fi is currently available at the following locations:
- Contemporary: The Wave restaurant and lounge and the Convention Center common areas.
- Coronado Springs: Casitas Building One
- Grand Floridian: Sugarload Building
Other areas of the hotels that aren't currently covered by this test can continued to use wireless access (in common areas) and wired access (in guest rooms) at the current $9.95 per day rate.

Special Dining Offers at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Jiko
The Official Disney Parks Blog reports the fhe following dining events at Animal Kingdom's Lodge Jiko restaurant:
May 4 – Post House Winery with Nick Geber. The Post House farm is in one of the preeminent wineries in South Africa’s Stellenbosch region. June 8 – Featuring Alex Dale, founder of Radford Dale Wines with Vinum vintages from the Stellenbosch region. June 15 – Ken Forrester Wines from the slopes of Helderberg Mountain in the heart of the Stellenbosch region, often referred to as the home of Chenin Blanc and other award-winning wines. September (date to be announced) – Mulderbosch Vineyards featuring from the Stellenbosch area, featuring winemaker Richard Kershaw who creates handcrafted and individual wines October 27 – Robin Back with popular Spice Route and Fairview Winery in the Paarl wine district of South Africa. (This dinner is part of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival events.) All dinners are five courses and cost $135 except for October, when dinner is seven courses and $180. 300 G.I. Joe Action Figures Launched from the Dolphin Hotel
