2006 Holidays at Walt Disney World

The Holidays at Walt Disney World 2006

There's no better time to visit Walt Disney World than during the holidays. From the moment you arrive on property you'll notice the decorations. It would be impossible to list everything to look for, so we've just tried to mention some of the things to look for in the major locations. But don't stop there. Wherever you decide to go you're sure to to see decorations appropriate for the location.

The Magic Kingdom
Christmas can be found all over the Magic Kingdom with traditional decorations on Main Street and themed festivities elsewhere. Highlights at the include:

Epcot
Celebration the holidays around the world is the focus at Epcot. The festivities run November 24 - December 30th. Highlights include:

  • Candlelight Processional: A spiritual Christmas tradition. Nightly November 24 - December 30th.

  • Holidays Around the World: Epcot World Showcase transforms into a splendor of international holiday traditions and storytelling beginning Nov. 24. Holiday icons who delight children around the globe -- such as France's Père Noël and Italy's La Befana -- make special appearances in their respective countries, while Santa Claus himself pays visits to the American Adventure showcase. Guests see holiday traditions and legends as they are observed around the world, with Hanukah and Kwanzaa customs on display as well.

  • Lights of Winter: A dazzling synchronized light show illuminates a canopy adorning the World Showcase breezeway bridge. Each evening the lights begin with the nightly tree lighting.

  • A special holiday ending to Illuminations: Reflections of Earth

  • Meet Santa at the American Pavilion

Disney-MGM Studios
The entire park is decorated for the season with a Tinsel Town flair November 13th - January 7th. But it's all just a set up for the biggest spectacle of them all...

  • The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights: For the third year this amazing display of Christmas lights decorates the backlot and Streets of America. New for the lights this year: The spectacle of millions of sparkling lights has been enhanced to include choreographed "dancing" lights which swirl and soar to an exhilarating medley of holiday music every 15 minutes, thanks to electronic wizardry featuring more than 400 dimmers. Every building facade, all the trees, wreaths, bells and holiday figures dance to classic tunes among Florida "snow flurries."

  • The Hollywood Holly-Day Parade: Disney characters, festively dressed parade cars and more in a daily Christmas parade.

Animal Kingdom
Like the Christmas Tree in front of the park, the holiday decorations at Animal Kingdom are unique. The decorations are up November 13th - January 7th. Highlights at Animal Kingdom include:

  • Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade: A holiday parade with the rhythm you've become accustomed to at Animal Kingdom

  • Much of the park is decorated for the season. Camp Minnie-Mickey is a highlight where Disney characters in their holiday best. They've also each decorated their own Christmas Tree. Christmas Carolers can be found there as well and outside the park is a unique 65-foot Christmas Tree.

Downtown Disney
The Christmas spirit extends to Downtown Disney as well. And don't forget - it's free!

  • Festival of the Seasons: Displays showing how different parts of the world celebrate during this time of the year.

  • Santa Claus will be at Santa's Chalet near the World of Disney.

  • Bring your cats and dogs to have a picture with Santa on selected dates

New Year's Eve
Walt Disney World Resort offers many options for celebrating the official kickoff of 2007 -- from ringing in the New Year at a special party at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island to getting festive in the parks.

Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney features live music, street dance parties and a countdown to midnight during a New Year's Eve extravaganza that has become a Walt Disney World tradition. Partygoers for the special-ticket event must be 21 or older to participate. For more information or to order tickets, guests may call 407/W-DISNEY.

Epcot celebrates the New Year "around the world" with DJs and evening dance parties located throughout World Showcase and lasting late into the evening, as well as a special presentation of the "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" lights, lasers and fireworks display.

Disney-MGM Studios celebrates New Year's Eve not only with multiple presentations of "Fantasmic!" a spectacular of Disney movies and music, but also with a special "Lights! Camera! Happy New Year!" fireworks spectacular, as well as a DJ dance party around the Sorcerer Hat Stage. Park guests have the opportunity to experience Disney-MGM Studios right up until the New Year officially gets underway at midnight.

Magic Kingdom features special presentations of the "SpectroMagic" parade and multiple nighttime fireworks displays. "Holiday Wishes" lights up the sky early in the evening, and guests who make it to midnight can see "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks, which begins just before the New Year kicks off.
