Now he has outdone himself with the new collection. They remind me of the great attraction posters of the early days, a nod to the pioneering graphic spirit yet rooted in the present. I hope they stay popular and he comes back to reinterpret the next anniversary in the park.

TV trays, lunch boxes and tiki cups in eye withering color!

When I saw those banners of Shag stuff, with the woman riding in the Autopia car, accompanied by her son in a space helmet, I was thrilled. That is the idea of Disneyland captured graphic snapshot. Like the Magic Kingdom seen through the eyes of a child. The colors are eye catching and remind me of pixie stix candy. Cool is simplicity, cool is clean cut Disney fun. Shag’s artwork is modern, yet relies on the past, which is not patronizing or self destructive. Much like the Grand Dame he is applauding. He comes to you as an equal, refreshing as the notion that everyone has embarrassing home movies back at Grampa’s house. He taps into the shared cultural experience of last fifty years, of which Disneyland is a stable influence, like the spinner on a top. So get yer mouse ears on and get in on the fun.
