Kyle XY is Misunderstood

At the Television Critics Association Awards, ABC Family's Kyle XY was named Best Chilrden's Program.  Now I've got to say, I watch and enjoy the show and think it is the best thing on ABC Family, but it is not a children's program. The show features some mature themes, and is perhaps best characterized as a young adult show.  Now I would hope that folks that voted for the show have seen the show(not that it matters cause we won).  I wonder if they were confused because it airs on ABC FAMILY.

The name family has to be in the channel's title because of a contract stipulation when Fox bought the channel from Pat Robertson, and that requirement, as well as being required to air Robertson's 700 Club, were transfered to Disney when they purchased the channel.

Disney has now need for another children's channel, that is what Disney Channel is for.  So ABC Family was transitioned from a channel with family programing to a channel with programing about families.  In fact ABC Family's current slogan is "A New Kind of Family", which is trying to spread the word that this is not the Family Channel of the past.

Kyle XY features a family.  In fact family is a central theme of the show.  But that does not mean the show is suitable for everyone in the family or that the show is for children.  If you havn't had a chance to check the show out, you can watch episodes on ABCFamily.com, and I encourage you to do so.  I hope you have a better understanding of the show than professional television critics.
