Oscar Week: The LaughingPlace Crew Share Their Oscar Picks

With the Academy Awards airing on ABC, we thought it would be fun to have some of the LaughingPlace.com contributors share their Oscar picks.  We have strict guidelines that everyone participating must not see all of the films nominated.  We also encourage picks based on silly reasons.  With that being said… lets get on with the picks!

Best Supporting Actress:

Marshal: Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) She won once so why not win again. I also never saw the movie.

Jeremiah: Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) Really? if you have to ask why you have never seen how cool she is!

Doug: Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) Didn’t see the film, but why not?

Alex: Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) Because she is both Mystique and Katniss Everdeen. She gets my vote for her performance in the trailer for American Hustle.”

FanBoy: Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) As a shape-shifter, I feel she has an acting advantage in all her roles.

Rebekah: Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) Loved her red carpet choice for the BAFTAs

Doobie: Julia Roberts (August: Osage County) She’s pretty.

Best Supporting Actor:

Marshal: Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) I like his music. That’s what I’m basing it on. Never saw the film.

Jeremiah: Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave) he’s just too cool!

Doug:  Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) Once again, I hear he plays Meryl Streep in this film. She’s having quite a year.

Alex:  Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) He plays a transgendered HIV+ prostitute. The other nominees appear to give fine performances, but none of the other roles are this juicy. He deserves this award

FanBoy: Bradley Cooper (American Hustle)  Not only did he appear on ABC’s Alias, but he is also the voice of Rocket Raccoon.

Rebekah: Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) In anticipation of his vocal performance as a weapon wielding raccoon.

Doobie: Jared Leto (American Hustle) Because his name reminds me of Jay Leno and he deserves an award having just finished his Tonight Show run.

Best Actress:

Marshal: Amy Adams (American Hustle) Never saw it. Basing it on her Disney connection.

Jeremiah: Sandra Bullock (Gravity) She really did an amazing job showing how well she can act, it takes talent to convey as much emotion as she did in scenes when she was all alone.

Doug: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) I think she actually plays Meryl Streep in Blue Jasmine.

Alex: Amy Adams (American Hustle) She is in two Best Picture nominees. Her revealing outfits and big hair must have put the Enchanted and The Muppets star out of her element, but that clip in the trailer where she looks very emotional in a bathroom with Jennifer Lawrence proves that she is acting underneath her 1970’s getup.

FanBoy: Amy Adams (American Hustle) Because a win here would be the great promotion for her return as Mary in Muppets Most Wanted.  Oh… wait

Rebekah: Amy Adams (American Hustle) Love her versatility such a wide array of performances over the past few years. Without her complete commitment to the role Mary that “rain on the window” gag in The Muppets wouldn’t have paid off. =)

Doobie: Amy Adams (American Hustle) I didn’t think she could improve on her work in The Office, but her performance in Enchanted surpassed it. However, they did not nominate her for that so I’d give her the Oscar for this.

Best Actor:

Marshal: Christian Bale (American Hustle) Never saw it. I’m basing it on his Disney connection.

Jeremiah: Christian Bale (American Hustle) He’s Batman

Doug: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) Snubbed for stripping off his clothes in Magic Mike, the Academy will recognize him for stripping off the weight here.

Alex: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) His commitment to prepare for the role plus his performance in the trailer are both inspiring, so he gets my vote

FanBoy: Christian Bale (American Hustle) Because I loved his singing and dancing as he hustles people to buy his papers.

Rebekah: Christian Bale (American Hustle) Carrying the Banner!

Doobie: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) Haven’t seen any of the nominees, but he’s doing great work in True Detective on HBO.

Best Picture:

Marshal: 12 Years a Slave I have not seen any of these films. I’m guessing.

Jeremiah: Gravity stunning visuals and a story that touches the heart….ok really because it’s in space and the only movie I really saw!

Doug: Gravity Sometimes I like to think Her has a chance, but then I come back down to earth.

Alex: Philomena It has Judy Dench (Spaceship Earth, Home on the Range) and looks heartwarming and uplifting

FanBoy: Gravity I found the film to be an attractive force

Rebekah: American Hustle I Like that the director’s name has a nice rhythm when said with the film — American Hustle directed by David O Russell.

Doobie: Gravity A movie you have to see at the movies to appreciate. Seeing it was an incredible experience. And the Academy loves movies with weight.
