Last minute shopping is the bane of many, and wondering what to buy can be a down right bummer. One gift suggestion is The Blood of Olympus, the fifth book in the Heroes of Olympus series from author Rick Riordan and Disney/Hyperion books. Not to worry if you haven’t read the previous novels in this series, as this book will provide enough details to fill in the gaps. The Blood of Olympus builds up to the final battle of the present day children of ancient Roman and Greek gods fighting against the Greek Earth goddess Gaea and her army of Giants and Cyclopes bent on world conquest.

Greek demigod Percy Jackson leads our heroes with Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series. They have banded together with the Roman demigod children of Jason Grace, Frank Zhang, and others to combine their talents and skills on a quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy that will bring the two camps of demigods together in peace and the defeat of Gaea.

Filled with action and adventure, the story takes place around the world with our heroes fighting evil in Athens, battling monsters in Puerto Rico, and fighting the climatic battle on Long Island.

This is a great end to an exciting series of books that makes the complicated history of Greek and Roman gods and goddesses understandable and applicable in today’s world. The characters are easy to connect with, and as the reader you feel the worry and burden that is on their shoulders. You can empathize with the difficult decisions that they must make in order to save the world.

I highly recommend that if you are looking for a fun gift this Christmas that you consider The Blood of Olympus. Of course you might want to check out the other books in this series as well so that you can enjoy the full story. This book is certain to engage the imagination of the young reader on your shopping list.
