Review: Star Wars Uprising Mobile App

So, about a year ago I reviewed the Star Wars Commander game… of which I’m still playing and of which I STILL haven’t spent a dime on. Now, a new Star Wars game has hit mobile devices… Star Wars Uprising.

More traditional, non-video game Role Playing Games are Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering. Both types of RPG’s function primarily the same: The more you fight, the more experience you gain, you level up, you get better weapons and armor, you learn new skills etc.

With games like Dungeons and Dragons and Final Fantasy there’s a bit of a learning curve.  You might play for several hours before you really get the hang of how leveling works and how to upgrade your skills and gear. I tend to play one of these games for several hours just to get the hang of everything and then start over again. Star Wars Uprising is very straight forward. Tutorials are built into the first level and you’re off and running.

photoUprising is fun, and easy to figure out. While options are fairly limited, you do get to design and name your character. When a level is complete, your experience points are tallied up, you can upgrade your gear, learn a new attack or skill. The only downside to the game that I ran into is that, after several hours of playing, the missions had become repetitive. If Star Wars Commander is any indication, it’s likely that updates will solve the repetition problem. That one issue aside, the game is very well made, the graphics and interface look great, and, for a reasonably small download, the game is packed with detail, cut scenes, music, and vocals. It’s a free game, so just like with Commander, you can’t go wrong.

Until next time, may the Force be with you!
