Hoopla is an online library of thousands of movies, music, and audio-books that is available 24/7 with no waiting lists, no late fees, and the best part? It’s free! How, you might ask, is this fantastic service free and how do I access it? You’ll want to thank your local library for that — they’re the ones that made this possible. Working, well, pretty much as an online library, you are able to check out an item that will be instantly returned upon the return date stated when you check out your selected item. And, they recently gave Disney fans a great surprise by adding hundreds of Disney eBooks along with a large variety of music, movies, comics and much more!
I was wondering if this was really too good to be true so I had to try it out for myself. I decided to explore the app and downloaded it to my phone, which, I should mention, was free. At that point, they ask you for your information on your library card and once you enter, you’re in. So easy!
I was so impressed with the massive selection and ease of use on the app. I found some books for me about Disney Trivia and some for my young daughter that we can read together at bedtime. Another gem I found was an audio-book of all the Toy Story movies combined. I absolutely had to have that one! I loved the convenience of having them all together so I didn’t have to go searching for each individually. Another great thing, as mentioned above, when you decide to checkout your item, it will tell you when it will be returned and, if you break from your reading, it has an automatic bookmark that will keep your place.
I really can’t say enough good things about this app! On the most basic level, you have the ability to check out five to 15 each month (depending on your library), which is extremely generous. Like I said, the selection is fantastic and has all kinds of great books. Obviously, because this is an app focused for people that can read, you won’t find many picture books. However, there was certainly a great deal of books with pictures in them that you could read to your little ones and give them an occasional picture to look at.
