Greg Pizzoli’s fourth Disney/Hyperion children’s book is Good Night Owl. The author and illustrator was the recipient of the prestigious Theodore Seuss Geisel Award for his first Disney book, The Watermelon Seed. Now the Philadelphia native is exploring what keeps us up at night in his newest picture book.
Owl is ready for bed in his pajamas with a good book to read, but a strange squeaking noise won’t let him fall asleep. Every time he thinks he knows where the sound is coming from, he’s wrong. He literally tears his house apart trying to find it in his quest to get a peaceful night’s rest. When he finally finds himself sleeping outdoors, he accepts defeat and says hi to his friend mouse, the source of the noise all along.
Pizzoli’s artwork is spellbinding and his color sense is really appealing. The story is very cute and kids will love the way Owl ruins his house as he tries to get some peace and quiet. And the fact that it’s a story about bedtime makes this a perfect addition to any parent’s bedtime story rotation.
