Out of Disney World: Main Event at Pointe Orlando

For most of my trips to Walt Disney World, my plan was to wake up, go to the parks, and then head to Pleasure Island. Unfortunately, in 2008 my plans were preeminently changed with the closer of PI. Yes, Disney Springs has expanded and become a great shopping and dining district, but there are times where you want to escape Disney. That is where Main Event comes in.The newly opened location, just minutes from Disney property, has something for every member of the family in its 49,000 square feet of fun. From the 22 bowling lanes, including some amazing interactive lanes to the over 100 cutting edge, virtual and interactive games, you’ll easily spend a few hours before you even realize it.

When you get hungry or thirsty, there’s a restaurant that is only a few steps away. With an amazing menu of food items and an even bigger menu of adult libations, you have almost as many options to eat and drink as you do to play.

Now, if bowling and video games aren’t your thing, Main Event has even more choices in the form of billiards and a gravity rope course nearly 10 feet above all the other games. I could go on and on about the games, bowling and great food, including La Bella’s — a stand alone pizza and gelato counter service located in the heart of the game center — but if I had to pick one thing that sets Main Event apart from anything else in Orlando it would have to be the V Play Reality virtual experience.Groups of six players are suited up in some of the latest Zero Latency VR tech and let loose for a 15-minute session of fighting off a zombie horde. The VR arena is only the fourth of its kind in the world and the first in the U.S. With free roaming play over a 2,500 square foot space, this will be the thing that will drive everyone back to Main Event.I have played my share of VR games in the past few years, but never have I felt like I was actually there. The ability to move around such a wide open space really helps put you in the middle of the action. While Test Track and the other thrill rides of Disney are must does in the parks, V Play Reality is a MUST do out of the parks!Main Event is worth the trip off Disney property for a nice night away, but make sure you dress for activity because, really, the motto for should be EAT. BOWL. PLAY. sweat.
