Review: Star Wars Rebels Smuggler’s Bounty

We have just received the latest Smuggler’s Bounty from the folks at Funko. The theme for March is Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels. For those that don’t know, Smuggler’s Bounty is the bi-monthly Star Wars subscription box that promises $50 worth of products for only $25. So how did the Rebels box rate?

The pin featured the muscle of Star Wars Rebels, Zeb. The pin is of Sabine Wren a Mandalorian warrior and weapons expert who has joined the rebellion.

The apparel item this month was a t-shirt that featured Pop versions of the entire crew of the Ghost. I liked the shirt this month as it is hard to find adult themed Rebels apparel.

This box featured to Pop! figures. Though if you were expecting core Star Wars Rebels characters, you will be disappointed. Both figures are of characters that appear as guest stars in Rebels but are best known for other appearances in the Star Wars Galaxy.

Darth Maul, whose role on Star Wars Rebels just ended, is found in his last incarnation with his robotic legs. Captain Rex, whose major role was on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, appears in his old age version which can be seen on Star Wars Rebels.

The only figure to come in the box that depicts a Star Wars Rebels regular is the Hikari version of Chopper. He comes in one of five colors.

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed in this box as I was hoping for a little bit more of a Rebels focus. Perhaps the folks at Funko were hedging their bets by including characters that might appeal to those that don’t watch the animated series.

The next box’s theme is Star Wars 40th Anniversary and is due out in May.
