Doobie goes back into the archives to pick 10 of his favorite pictures from DCA's construction and early days.

Top 10 Pics

Much of LaughingPlace.com's first year and a half was spent photographing Disney's California Adventure - the construction then the park when it opened. For this week's Editor's Report I thought it'd be fun to take a look back. So I went through the hundreds of pictures we took during that period and picked out my ten favorite. And here they are along with a brief explanation of why each is special to me. Unfortunately, in the early days we didn't always have large versions of pictures, so not all of the pictures below offer that.

#10: After months of waiting we finally got to see the parks with the lights on. If I'm not mistaken, Dave took the picture below. It was taken from the Timon parking lot with a tripod and a long exposure.

#9: Another first - this time our first picture of California Screamin' going through the loop. And again, taken from the Timon parking lot. The Paradise Pier hotel gave the best view of the Screamin' launch, but Timon had the best shot of the loop.

#8: During park soft openings we had the opportunity to spend a night at the Grand Californian Hotel overlooking Condor Flats at the Grizzly area. The next morning I was able to get this shot which shows the entire attraction.

#7: Of all the openings during the 4 day long DCA opening I personally attended, the one for Golden Dreams was my favorite. It culminated in René Goldsberry singing Just One Dream live with 106 backup singers from local churches. A video of the ceremony and the song are available in the original article.

#6: This one's fun because it was pure luck. I believe I was on my way home from the Resort, and turning from Katella onto Disneyland Drive was what you see below. Luckily, the camera was ready. It can now be seen at the front of EnginEars Toys.
