2000 Special Moments
In thinking of the year 2000 many wonderful memories surface including Disneyland’s 45th birthday celebration where Cynthia Harriss and the Disneyland Ambassadors lead the gathered crowd in singing happy birthday to Disneyland. Later that afternoon there was a big LaughingPlace.com meet. We had great time putting faces to screennames and handing out buttons.
I also fondly recall playing Walt Disney World Racing on Sony Playstation for the first time with my brothers and getting together with family and friends to see a Disney animated film on the big, big IMAX screen. Of course, I’m talking about Fantasia 2000. This film has captured the imagination of my younger brothers who have created video games around its main characters and have been inspired to compose their own music. I also remember the mall events when the Lion King tickets went on sale in Los Angeles and the party for the unveiling of the Disney Store's new design.

But the ones that came to mind when I first began to reflect on the year 2000 can be found below. They are not in any particular except the last item which will always be deeply engrained in my mind as my favorite Disney memory of the year 2000. So let’s turn back the clock…
February 12: Cinderella's 50th Anniversary Ball

On the evening of February 12th Disney fans dressed up in tuxedos and formal gowns to attend the Royal Ball held at the Disneyland Hotel for Cinderella’s 50th anniversary. It was a night of stories from the Disney legends that had created Cinderella including the voice talents who brought Anastasia, Drizella and Cinderella to life. The evening began with a loving tribute to Disney’s legendary animator Marc Davis. The video montage provided a brief glimpse into the career of this amazingly talented and lovely man. His wife, Alice, a Disney Legend in her own right was present for the evening and was obviously touched by the outpouring of affection in his memory. The banquet was wonderful. The food presentation was set to the occasion. Our pumpkin bisque was served inside a pumpkin shaped bread bowl and the pallet cleansing sorbet near the meal’s end was served in an elegant “ice”glass slipper. Throughout the evening actors portrayed various scenes from the classic film we were all there to celebrate.
