One Year

One year. It could seem like an eternity, or a single day.

It certainly hasn't seemed like a year since I began this column for LaughingPlace. I have enjoyed myself, and the months have flown by.

Like most people, I stumbled onto LaughingPlace by chance. I learned to rely on the information presented on its pages. I marveled at the amount of work it must take to go through newsites and collect the information published daily about the Disney Empire. I respected their integrity when allot of fansites are crowding the bar, trying to out-rumor each other. Not that there’s nothing wrong with speculation, but when I go to the parks, I want solid information, not smoke.

I wrote to Double (Grand Poobah of LP) and asked if he needed another columnist for his site (Doobie needs another columnist like he needs another thumb). I hoped with the constant grind of maintaining a daily site; they would need a steady diet of material. Doobie returned the email and asked for samples. I sent him one, and he asked for another. Then he gave his okay, and here I am.

I do hope there was something within my ramblings that readers could use. One thing I do enjoy about writing this column is the readers do share my enthusiasm for the Walt Disney Co, warts and all. This unique company has done so much for us over the years. LaughingPlace became a community for Disney fans to share their experiences with each other.

I have gotten to know allot of wonderful people working for LaughingPlace, and part of the growing community. We trade ideas, experiences over the year and has given me a great deal of comfort and laughter.

If I knew, as a small pup on the Captain Hook's Pirate Ship, pirate hat with looooong feather waving in the breeze, I would not only have worked for Disney for 10 years, but would write of these experiences, I would have questioned my sanity.

In my own modest way, I am grateful for the chance to share my thoughts with the community. I enjoy the feedback from readers telling me my ravings meant something to them. It really makes my day, one of the perks of this job.

So this month, the column is a short note, thanking everyone for putting up with me over the year. I raise a glass (of cherry Coke) for a short toast: Here's to another good Disney year for all of us.
