DISC 2:

1937:

Hawaiian Holiday

September 24, 1937. Directed by Sharpsteen.

Summary: The Fab Five are all together on the beaches of Hawaii.

Behind the Shorts: Goofy would return to Hawaii in the 1952 short Hello, Aloha.

Moose Hunters

February 20, 1937. Directed by Sharpsteen.

Summary: Donald and Goofy try to lure a moose by dressing up as a female of the species.

Behind the Shorts: Mostly Donald and Goofy's game; Mickey spends most of the short literally up a tree.

The Worm Turns

January 2, 1937. Directed by Sharpsteen.

Summary: Mickey shows heretofore unseen mad scientist tendencies when he concocts a potion that turns the meek against their oppressors.

Behind the Shorts: Excessively violent for a Disney short, Mickey's "secret lab" was later recalled in the Queen's dungeon in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Uncensored: Dogcatcher Pete threatens to blow Pluto's head-off with a shotgun.

Magician Mickey

February 6, 1937. Directed by Hand.

Summary: Mickey has to deal with a heckling Donald during his magic act.

Behind the Shorts: Donald is especially hostile toward Mickey in this one ...

Uncensored: ... eventually pulling a pistol on him and stagehand Goofy.

Mickey's Amateurs

April 17, 1937. Directed by Pinto Colvig, Walt Pfeiffer and Ed Penner.

Summary: Mickey hosts an amateur hour featuring Donald's attempts to recite "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", a duet between Clara Cluck and Clarabelle Cow on piano, and Goofy's one-man band.

Behind the Shorts: Hoping for inspiration, Walt turned to storymen Colvig, Pfeiffer and Penner to direct this short. Colvig is, of course, best known as the voice of Goofy. Pfeiffer was Walt's childhood friend; they used to perform together as "The Two Walts".

Uncensored: Donald pulls a machine gun on the audience ... yes, a machine gun.

Clock Cleaners

October 15, 1937. Directed by Sharpsteen.

Summary: Mickey, Donald and Goofy have the perilous job of cleaning a giant, Big Ben-type clock.

Behind the Shorts: The first short where there was equal time between the big three; obviously it worked, as subsequent team-ups featured them employed in various odd jobs.

Lonesome Ghosts

December 24, 1937. Directed by Bert Gillett.

Summary: Mickey, Donald and Goofy as ... the Ghostbusters!

Behind the Shorts: One of the more well-known shorts among younger audiences due to it's perennial Halloween airings, this short used a special type of transparent paint for the ghost characters.
