The procession ended at the flag pole. The Dapper Dans sang a beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful�? enjoining the vets and the audience to join in the last verse. As “Taps�? played over the loudspeakers, the lights on Main Street snapped on, giving a dramatic appearance to the entire ceremony. Then the security took down the flags and efficiently folded them.
The Color Guard leading the way, the vets, Dapper Dans, Security marched off stage, following by The Disneyland Band. The audience applauded the vets again as they left. It was a very dignified ceremony. Where I was standing were many family members of the Vets, and they were moved by the earnest simplicity of the ceremony.
This is another reason why Disneyland remains heads and shoulders above the rest of the theme park pack. Especially these days, it is important to realize what Veterans do for us, and why they do what they do. In the past, and in these times, they continue to make sacrifices for the country they believe in. I enjoyed watching the event, and watching others enjoying the event. In that one moment, everyone was together, and it felt great.
