The Toon Talk Top 10 - Good Company:

Unlike the film itself, none of Phil Collins’ Brother Bear songs were nominated for the Academy Award this year. But, as you can see by the list below, “Great Spirits? and “On My Way? are not alone in the realm of great Disney songs ignored by Oscar:

  1. “Someday My Prince Will Come? or “Heigh-Ho? (music by Frank Churchill, lyrics by Larry Morey) from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
  2. “The Second Star to the Right? (music by Sammy Fain, lyrics by Sammy Cain) from Peter Pan (1953).
  3. “Belle Notte? (music and lyrics by Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke) from Lady and the Tramp (1955).
  4. “On the Front Porch? (music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman) from Summer Magic (1963).
  5. “Fortuosity? or “Are We Dancing?? (music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman) from The Happiest Millionaire (1967).
  6. “Why Should I Worry?? (music and lyrics by Dan Hartman and Charlie Midnight) from Oliver and Company (1988).
  7. “This is Halloween? (music and lyrics by Danny Elfman) from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).
  8. “Out There? or “God Help the Outcasts? (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) from The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996).
  9. “Reflection? (music by Matthew Wilder, lyrics by David Zippel) from Mulan (1998).
  10. “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride? (music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Mark Keali’l Ho’omalu) from Lilo and Stitch (2002).

Honorable Mention: Here are five more classic tunes that found other songs from the same film edging them out of competition:

  1. “Little April Shower? (music and lyrics by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey) from Bambi (1942). (“Love Is A Song? was nominated instead.)
  2. “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes? (music and lyrics by Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston) from Cinderella (1950). (“Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo? was nominated instead.)
  3. “Feed the Birds (Tuppence A Bag)? (music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman) from Mary Poppins (1964). (“Chim-Chim-Cher-ee? won.)
  4. “Part of Your World? (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman) from The Little Mermaid (1989). (“Under the Sea? won, and “Kiss the Girl? was also nominated.)
  5. “If I Never Knew You? (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) from Pocahontas (1995). (“Colors of the Wind? won.)
