Disneyland’s 46th Anniversary Pin Event
As Becky wrapped up Bruce and Martha took the stage to go over the new pin promotions. They spent the bulk of their time discussing the Disneyland’s 46th Anniversary Pin Event. Bruce began by asking if anyone participated in the 45th Anniversary event, hands went up. He noted, "It was a fun event from the guest end of it and also from our organization of it. It was a lot of fun. Well, this year in recognition of the parks 46th anniversary we’re going to be celebrating an event… Take a Sailing Tour of the Disneyland Resort. We’re looking at the boats of Disneyland."

Bruce answers questions

Bruce continued, "With that, for $9.95, you will be able to purchase a map that is being specifically designed for this event and you’ll also be given a sheet of clues that will send you around to … seven?… four?… site locations." Martha added, "It’s four site locations that you will take your map and have your map stamped - OK? But, you will have the opportunity to buy seven pins (at $10.50 per pin) that will be a part of this event. But, you will only need to go to four locations to have the map stamped, because, also a part of this event is that you’ll get a commemorative pin to commemorate the 46th Anniversary and that is our gift to you to say thank you. But, in order to get that pin you will have to have your four stamps on the map."

"It’s a scavenger hunt… but the questions that we’ll be asking for this event won’t be hard questions. We know that a lot of you are very, very familiar with the park so they should be very easy for you… We found that you guys really like the games, really enjoyed that, which is wonderful. Putting them together is a lot of fun for us also. Our test is putting them together for you and your test is when you answer the questions. And we love it. And we love that you guys really love to do this, it’s really wonderful."

The maps can be purchased at: Disney Showcase, Disneyana Shop, Autopia Winner’s Circle, Fantasy Faire Gifts, Bonanza Outpost, Tropical Outpost, Pieces of Eight and the Disney Gallery. The redemption centers will be found in the Disneyana Shop, Disney Showcase and the Disney Gallery. The locations of the stamping stations are found in the clues that come with the map, the seven specialty pins for the event will feature Storybook Land, Peter Pan, it’s a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, the Mark Twain and the Columbia. Bruce added, "There is no limit on the maps, however, (here’s where it gets complicated) the purchase with purchase pins are limited to two pins per map purchase… they’re a larger pin, and I think you’ll really like them. The detail is really very nice."

The event runs from July 15th to the 29th. There will also be an event pin for the AP holders available from July 15th to the 22nd. Martha added, "If you’re an Annual Passholder you really want to be here during the first week, OK? This is a very popular event for us and if you wait until the end… then… we don’t suggest that you do that. We have planned that we will have enough merchandise through the core of the event." Bruce added, "We want to meet the need, but, we don’t want to have over stock or everyday merchandise to keep it special… My recommendation is, because of the Annual Passholder piece is in the first week, to participate that first week."

Martha suggested that those interested in more information should make sure that they are on the Special Events mailing list that is run through her office, which is different than the Annual Passholder mailing list. To do so you can go to the Disneyana Shop and the Disney Gallery and fill out an interest card for special events. If you already get post cards for events and the DCA pin of the month events you do not need to fill out an interest card. Some of the news will also be posted in the AP list but not all events are listed in the AP newsletter.

Q & A
During the Q&A trader concerns ranged from:

The size and availability of limited editions, Becky noted, "No one knows what will be released or when, everyone has as equally a bad chance to get a pin."

The rough and tumble of the secondary market, which Becky answered, "We have no control over what is sold on-line, where or for how much."

A complete guide to pins released at the resort, Becky added, "We are working on that at this time, it will try to cover all the theme parks. It is in the works."

A web site, Bruce noted, "We’d love a site." But they noted that some if not all of the special events information is available on-line at Dizpins.com, LaughingPlace.com, MousePlanet.com and through membership in the NFFC.

The next special event, which Martha answered, "October."

Walt’s 100th, they all answered, "We are doing something, we don’t know and can’t say what it is, but it will be something." Special events is doing something special. Bruce noted, "His birthday will not go un-noticed."

Changes in pin talks, Becky noted that a few changes and more locations are coming up in the future, but that she can’t go into it yet.

The next scheduled Pin Trading Workshop is on June 24th.
