DOCTOR TERMINUS

Film: Pete’s Dragon (1977)
Actor: Jim Dale
DVD: Available

The last thing that quack medicine man Doc Terminus expected to find in the little town of Passamaquoddy (besides a tongue twister) is a real live fire-breathing dragon. He practically salivates at the potential windfall the magical beast could bring him and his phony remedies. But first he has to actually capture Pete’s dragon …

Partners in Crime: Hoagy, the Gogan Family.
Gotta Sing-Sing: “Every Little Piece?
Quote: (Responding to Pete’s statement that Elliot goes to those who need him) “I need him!?
Final Verdict: The not-so-good doctor is literally blown out of town, courtesy of Elliot.

PERCIVAL McLEACH

Film: The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
Voice Actor: George C. Scott
Supervising Animator: Duncan Marjoribanks
DVD: Available

Poacher by trade, McLeach specializes in rare exotic animals, and Marahute, the giant golden eagle, is certainly the rarest and most exotic creature he’s ever hunted. He just didn’t bargain on the pluck of a young outback boy and a couple of mice (!) determined to help the winged wonder and her precious nest of eggs.

Partner in Crime: Joanna the goanna.
Gotta Sing-Sing: A rather warped version of “Home on the Range?
Quote: (While lowering Cody to the crocodiles) “Now, this is my idea of fun!?
Final Verdict: Crikey! When McLeach falls to his doom into a crocodile infested river, he’s croc chow, mate!

GOVERNOR RATCLIFFE

Film: Pocahontas (1995)
Voice Actor: David Ogden Stiers
Supervising Animator: Duncan Marjoribanks
DVD: New Special Edition now available

Avarice is his middle name - all he wants is to find his own “gold of Cortez? so he can prove himself in King James’ court, and if slaughtering savages and pillaging their land is what has to be done, then so be it. Of course, he leaves all the heavy lifting to his underlings - crick in the spine, you know.

Partners in Crime: Wiggins and Percy (in a codependent kind of way).
Gotta Sing-Sing: “Mine Mine Mine?
Quote: “I’m very well aware that this is my last chance for glory. But mark my words, Wiggins: when King James sees the gold these peasants unearth, success will be mine at last.?
Final Verdict: Having accidentally shot Captain John Smith, he is put in chains and shipped back to England in disgrace.

CLAYTON

Film: Tarzan (1999)
Voice Actor: Brian Blessed
Supervising Animator: Randy Haycock
DVD: New Special Edition now available

A perfect example of the square-jawed “great white hunter?, Clayton serves as the jungle guide to the Porter expedition in their quest for gorillas to study. But he has other ideas for the apes, far from scientific research, and he’s not going to allow some loin-clothed barbarian stand in his way.

Quote: (As Tarzan aims the rifle at him) “Go ahead … be a man.?
Final Verdict: One of the most gruesome in Disney history: in his final showdown with Tarzan, Clayton accidentally hangs himself in a tangle of vines.

CAPTAIN BARBOSSA

Film: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Actor: Geoffrey Rush
DVD: Available

Lust for treasure led Barbosa and his motley crew to a chest full of cursed gold doubloons, and in order to escape eternal walking death, they must retrieve every last coin, a task they’ll do anything - kidnap, ravage, they don’t give a hoot - to complete.

Partners in Crime: The skeleton crew of the Black Pearl.
Quote: “You best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. You’re in one!?
Final Verdict: The curse is lifted - just in time for rival Captain Jack Sparrow to plunge a cutlass into Barbosa’s chest.
