This “Freestyle Edition? (again, whatever …) is rounded out with two musical videos featuring co-star Palmer (“Jumpin’?) and Miki, Boo Boo , Kid Karizz and Jade, a.k.a. T-Squad (“Vertical?), plus a pair of brief featurettes on “Learning the Moves? (Corbin shows you how to Double Dutch yourself) and “Inside the Ropes: The Making of Jump In!? which, much like the movie itself , are strictly for “tweens? only.

Toon Talk Rating: C+

Boy in Girls’ Sport Edition

In this ‘Toon Talk’ feature, I will briefly highlight a recommended film or DVD, outside of the Disney universe, of similar interest to the main subject.

BILLY ELLIOT
2000 - Universal Focus

OK, so ballet is more an “Art? then a sport, but you get the idea. Jamie Bell makes an amazing debut as the title character in Stephen Daldry’s uplifting coming-of-ager. Unknown to his hard-nosed father (Gary Lewis), Bell as Billy skips out on boxing lessons in favor of ballet, taught by a chain-smoking Julie Walters. You won’t find a more realistic or satisfying inspirational movie out there; one of my own personal favorites of all time.

DVD available from Universal Home Video. MPAA Rating: R.

Coming Soon:

  • The big green ogre is back again in DreamWorks’ Shrek the Third (May 18).
  • Yo ho, the final chapter of the saga arrives with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (May 25).
  • HSM mania continues with the new Disney DVD High School Musical: The Concert - Extreme Access Pass (June 26).
