Disney Tries to Toughen Florida's Ticket Fraud Laws

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Disney is trying to toughen ticket fraud laws in the State of Florida. State Senator Tom Lee from Brandon who is head of the Judiciary Committee is supporting the legislation this year after blocking it last year. His Political Action Committee recently received a $10,000 donation from Disney but the senator denies this playing any role in his decision. Previously, Disney supported a different candidate in Sen. Lee’s primary which caused some bad blood between the political and Walt Disney World. State Senator Andy Gardiner from Orlando, who is set to become Senate President. is also supporting the legislation.

The bill would provide longer prison terms for those engaging in ticket fraud as well as cover Disney’s new Magic Bands. A Disney spokesperson said that, “fraudulent ticket sales can ruin family vacations and harm Florida’s tourism brand.”
