Walt Disney World Reaches Agreement With Largest Union Group

Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members voted in favor of a new five-and-a-half-year contract on Aug. 1.

This new agreement between the Service Trades Council Union (STCU) and Walt Disney World Resort increases non-tipped start rates for full-time STCU Cast to $9 per hour this month. The new rate will be retroactive to March 30 (based on current job classification and new rate of pay) and will increase to $10 per hour in July 2016. The contract also includes a choice of affordable healthcare options for benefits-eligible workers and their families.

“I am proud we will be able to continue to provide our Cast an industry-leading employment package that reflects the important role they play in our guests’ most special memories,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “Having started my career here as an hourly Cast Member, I know how crucial all roles are to the success of our resort.”

The agreement is effective through Sept. 2019.

Some Union Members were disappointed that members at the higher end of the pay scale will no longer receive percentage increases, and instead will receive 50 cent increases for the first three years of the contract.
