Earffel Tower Removed from Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Reports indicate that the Earffel Tower at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was removed overnight. The structure, which served as the official icon of the park from 1989 to 2001 was removed to make way for construction of Toy Story Land.

The tower was created to give the backlot of the then Disney-MGM Studios authenticity with a touch of Disney magic as many Hollywood studios had water towers as a safety precaution. While the tower in Florida was used for many marketing purposes, it was never a functional water tower.

With the construction of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land, the story of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is continuing its transition from being a celebration of the movie making process to a place where guests can experience some of their favorite films. Therefore, the backlot and its associated water tower are making way for new development.
