The Orange County Register has the huge news that Disney is going to be adding a new luxury hotel to the Disneyland Resort. On Tuesday, Disney submitted plans for what they’ve termed their new “flagship” hotel – a 700-room, four-diamond hotel and park structure on 10 acres at 1401 Disney Drive which is at the north end of the Downtown Disney parking lot.  The hotel is slated to open in 2021 with construction beginning in 2018.

Walt Disney Imagineering will design the hotel, which currently does not have a theme, Disneyland officials said. Guests will sit on a rooftop deck to watch Disneyland’s nightly fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, there will be signature restaurants, two pools, a fitness facility, concierge service and a kid’s play area.

The hotel would join the Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel and Grand Californian Hotel as the only Disney-owned hotels at the Disneyland Resort. The last of these opened in 2001 with the Downtown Disney and Disney’s California Adventure expansion.

In submitting the proposal, Disney said the new hotel would create thousands of jobs and more than $750 million in additional tax revenue over the next four decades while also helping Anaheim attraction more high end visitors.
