Walt Disney World Trip Used as Evidence in Disability Fraud Case

A 44-year-old Army veteran has been charged with disability fraud after it was discovered that she had been exaggerating her injuries in order to maintain payments over the past six years. What’s interesting is the location where prosecutors collected some of their key evidence: Walt Disney World. As WFTV reports, Crystel Lee Riedling, who claimed she had completely lost use of her right hand, was caught by investigations using the hand in question while on a trip to the parks with her daughters.

When presented with the evidence against her, Riedling copped to exaggerating her injury, saying, “I stated I was more disabled that I was.” However, she argued that she “felt like [she] earned this.” Riedling received over $300,000 in disability payments since 2009. She is now set to be sentenced in April and faces up to 15 years in prison.
