Kathleen Kennedy Says Not Releasing Unaltered Versions of Star Wars

According to various reports, on the SteeleWars Podcast that was recorded at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said that they will not be releasing unaltered version of the original Star Wars trilogy. While there is no contractual agreement that the Star Wars cut that George Lucas created remain the only cut, she said, “I wouldn’t touch those, are you kidding me? [laughs] Those will always remain his.”

There had been rumors that as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of Star Wars, that Lucasfilm would release restored versions of the classic films. Prior to creating the Prequel Trilogy, George Lucas made controversial changes to the films and made further modifications in subsequent releases. Kennedy’s statements seem to kill those rumors.

She also mentioned that Carrie Fisher has a significant role in The Last Jedi and is a fantastic last performance. They also had to rethink some things about Episode IX after her passing.

She also said that the best part of bringing Star Wars creator George Lucas to Celebration was seeing him have such a great time.
