Through this relationship, GameSpy Industries is enabling the online multi-player component of Disney Interactive's Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Search for the Journal, a specially created, free, 3D multi-player game "prequel" to Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire June 15th film release, for millions of game fans across the Internet.
GameSpy will host the online multi-player gameplay for Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Search for the Journal prequel, and Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Trial by Fire, the follow-up, expanded retail version of the game launching May 15th, through a custom Atlantis-themed version of its popular GameSpy Arcade www.gamespyarcade.com. This leading online multiplayer game service delivers superior online gaming experiences to nearly one million consumers around the world.
"Consumers have always looked to Disney to create their most immersive entertainment experiences," said Mark Surfas, president and CEO, GameSpy Industries. "Good creative content transcends media platforms, and we are delighted to be part of the Atlantis experience Disney Interactive is delivering. GameSpy is proud to be enabling online multi-player gameplay for Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire interactive games."
The technologies used in the online multi-player gameplay of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Search for the Journal and Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Trial by Fire are part of GameSpy.net, an infrastructure of software, back-end servers, bandwidth, and network operations personnel that keep games with online features up and running. GameSpy.net addresses common online game development issues and enables game developers and publishers to offer critical online and multi-player functionality in their games, regardless of platform. It provides easy-to-implement cross-platform tools and back-end services that support the features gamers have come to expect in their games, including matchmaking, online competition and game persistence.
Game developers gain access to the GameSpy.net infrastructure through the GameSpy.net toolkits, a dozen cross-platform tools that address common functions necessary to online games, including multiplayer networking, matchmaking, chat, online competition and anti-piracy detection. Developers can pick and choose from these tools that work together as a suite or independently. Designed to save time, lower development costs, and integrate seamlessly into existing code, the GameSpy.net toolkits were developed by GameSpy to simplify the process of adding online and multi-player functionality to games.
GameSpy.net has already won widespread support from the game developer and publisher communities. It is the official online gaming infrastructure for top game publishers such as Activision, Interplay, Gathering of Developers, Crave Entertainment, Strategy First and Wizard Works. In addition, over 100 developers use the GameSpy.net infrastructure today to enable popular multi-player and online features in their games.
