Monsters, Inc. characters to take part in Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day parade

The 2001 6ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade - The Tradition Becomes a Tribute to America!

Miss America 2002, pop sensation Dream Street and the characters from Disney/Pixar's new movie ``Monsters, Inc.'' all come to the birthplace of America as a Philadelphia tradition becomes a tribute to our nation with this year's 6ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Action News anchors and parade hosts Dave Roberts and Lisa Thomas-Laury, along with Channel 6's Scott Palmer and Karen Rogers, invite you to join this very special event, Thanksgiving morning, November 22nd, starting at 9am on Channel 6.

In a year in which the country has come together, the parade will salute the nation and its heroes through performance and song, including a patriotic number by Miss America 2002, Katie Harman. But that's just the beginning of the festivities. Also on hand will be Mickey Mouse, Minnie and the whole Disney family with a spectacular sneak peek at Walt Disney World's 100 Years of Magic celebration. Plus, Channel 6's Karen Rogers will broadcast live from Walt Disney World, with the magical holiday celebration in Orlando.

And speaking of Walt Disney World ... For the second year, Boscov's is sponsoring a 100 Years of Magic vacation contest. Entrants simply need to fill out a form at any Boscov's store and mail it in for a chance to win one of 3 family trips for six to Walt Disney World Resorts. Winners will be randomly chosen live during the parade telecast on November 22nd.

But a chance to win a trip to Walt Disney World is just one of the highlights of the parade. The sounds of music will also rock the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with performances including hot pop group Dream Street, Kim English, Evelyn Champagne King and the Delaware Valley's own Lauren Hart.

Other parade highlights include the characters from the new Disney/Pixar movie ``Monsters, Inc.,'' a mass children's choir, a performance by over 600 tap dancers, over a dozen giant helium balloons, incredible floats and marching bands from across the country.

Those who come to the Parkway to experience the parade in person will enjoy food, fun, and free giveaways, courtesy of parade sponsors, at the Campbell's Winter Wonderland Expo Tent, located at Eakins Oval.

The 6ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade, already the highest rated local television event in the Delaware Valley, will also be carried live by WSWB, Scranton (WB); WLYH, Harrisburg (UPN); WATM, Johnstown (ABC); WJET, Erie (ABC); as well as WTEN in Albany, NY (ABC).

This is the 82nd year of Philadelphia's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
