Donald Duck Fans Are Sure to be "Hot" For New Sculpture Release From the Walt Disney Classics Collection
New Sculpture Derived From Walt Disney's 1935 Classic Animated Short Mickey's Fire Brigade

A determined Donald Duck tracks down flames, literally, in his role as a fierce firefighter in the new Walt Disney Classics Collection sculpture release entitled "Donald Duck: Duck! A Fire!" Derived from Walt Disney's 1935 classic animated short Mickey's Fire Brigade, the new sculpture debuted at authorized Walt Disney Classics Collection retailer locations nationwide in April 2002.

Produced as a companion sculpture to the 2001 release "Mickey Mouse: Fireman to the Rescue," also derived from Mickey's Fire Brigade and starring everyone's favorite heroic mouse, the new Donald Duck sculpture proves that heroes come in all shapes, sizes - - and temperaments. As created by famed Disney sculptor Bruce Lau, Donald is impressive in his red and white fireman's helmet as he pursues a couple of errant flames and, with "FIRE" bucket in hand, literally fights fire with fire.

The sculpture, standing 4" high, accurately conveys Donald Duck's unique 1930s design -- thinner body and beak -- and features such as "plussing" elements as fanciful, brightly painted pewter flames. Crafted in fine porcelain "Donald Duck: Duck! A Fire!" features a suggested retail price of $125 US ($188 Canada).

The Opening Title scroll for Mickey's Fire Brigade (Height: 1 3/5 inches) also debuted in April 2002. The title scroll features a suggested retail price of $29 US ($45 Canada).

WDCC collectors who already have Mickey Mouse from Mickey's Fire Brigade will want to create a "heroic duo" with the addition of Donald. With his defiant and determined pose, Donald is the perfect complement to the happy-go-lucky Mickey performing as a confident "Fireman to the Rescue."

Mickey's Fire Brigade was originally released on August 3, 1935. The cartoon is one of many made during the 1930s and 40s that successfully showcased the conflicting comedic styles of Mickey, Donald and Goofy. Directed by famed Disney animation director Ben Sharpsteen, the cartoon short is highlighted by the trio attempting to quell a fire in Clarabelle Cow's home, attempting to rescue her with bravery and daring-do, ultimately crashing into the house and into her bathtub - - with Clarabelle still in it!

The Walt Disney Classics Collection is renowned for its faithful recreation of unforgettable moments from Disney's animated films. The collection features a broad array of sculptures ranging in suggested retail price from $50 to more than $2,000. Each sculpture is crafted out of fine porcelain or resin and is hand-painted according to the film's original color palettes.
