The Sly and Clever Siamese Cats, Si
& Am Slink into The Walt Disney Classics Collection from Walt Disney's Classic
Animated Film Lady and the Tramp
New Release of Mischievous Feline Pair Are Third Release in "Disney
Duos" Series
Walt Disney's classic 1955 animated feature Lady and the Tramp tells the charming story of a beautiful little cocker spaniel and her romance with a mutt from the wrong side of the tracks. However, adding chaos and mischief to the love story are two cunning and sly Siamese cats - - Si and Am. This troublesome twosome is the third and newest release in the Walt Disney Classics Collection "Disney Duos" series that collectors are sure to sink their "claws" into.
These two new sculpture releases, Si: "We are Siamese if you please" and Am: "We are Siamese if you don't please", slinked into authorized WDCC retailer locations in April 2002. They are offered as a set, along with a decorative canary birdcage stand and have a suggested retail price of $195 US ($294 CN). The finely detailed porcelain sculpture set is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and possesses such "plussing" elements as special whiskers on the cats, bronze pole, brass cage, brass swing and resin pour in the bird's water dish.
The first release in the "Disney Duos" series was introduced in year 2000 and showcased The Tortoise and the Hare from the classic Disney Silly Symphony cartoon of 1934. The second release in year 2001 highlighted Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee from Walt Disney's classic 1951 animated fi}m Alice in Wonderland. Collectors shouldn't "catnap" because the new Si and Am sculpture set is limited to production in year 2002 only.
In the film Lady and the Tramp the Victorian household of Jim Dear, his wife Darling and their lovely little cocker spaniel Lady is turned completely upside down when Aunt Sarah comes to visit with her conniving Siamese cats, Si and Am. The conniving cats explain their intentions and personalities through the "Siamese Cat Song" and proceed to wreak havoc throughout the house - -always pointing blame towards the innocent Lady.
As rendered by famed Disney sculptor Chris Peterson, Si and Am are "purrrrrfectly" captured in porcelain as they attempt to make a meal out of the Jim Dear and Darling's innocent sweet yellow canary. This devious duo will make a great addition to any collection of Disney cats or villains.
Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp premiered in Chicago on June 16, 1955. It was the first Disney animated feature to be produced in CinemaScope (a wide-screen film format). Upon its release, the animated feature was both a commercial and critical success, garnering numerous awards and accolades including the Parents Magazine Medal Award, Italian International Award, Plaque -Daughters of the American Revolution and was selected for exhibition at the Ninth International Edinburgh Film Festival.
Lady and the Tramp is also noted for its memorable song score by Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke, especially the song "Bella Notte" which accompanies the film's famous "spaghetti scene" (previously rendered by the Walt Disney Classics Collection as a limited edition). Another highlight of the film is the hypnotic "Siamese Cat Song," sung by Si and Am and given voice by the talent Peggy Lee singing both parts.
"Lady and the Tramp has been one of the most popular film subjects for our sculptures," states David Nicklin, Director, Sales and Marketing of Walt Disney Art Classics (the fine art and collectibles division of The Walt Disney Company responsible for the creation of the Walt Disney Classics Collection). "We have had many requests through the years to introduce sculptures of the Si and Am, so we're happy to add them to the Walt Disney Classics Collection. We hope cat lovers and Disney fans alike will enjoy this fun salute to two of Disney's favorite duos."
The Walt Disney Classics Collection is renowned for its faithful recreation of unforgettable moments from Disney's animated films. The collection features a broad array of sculptures ranging in suggested retail price from $50 to more than $2,000. Each sculpture is crafted out of fine porcelain or resin and is hand-painted according to the film's original color palettes. Sculptures are often enhanced with mixed materials such as precious metals, stones, pearls and crystals.
The collection is developed and distributed by Walt Disney Art Classics, which also administrates the popular Walt Disney Collectors Society in addition to overseeing the Disney Showcase Collection (a portfolio of high-end licensed Disney collectibles) along with the company's animation art portfolios. The Walt Disney Classics Collection is available at fine gift and collectible stores and galleries, select Disney Stores and the Disney Theme Parks around the world.
