Collectors Should Be "On
Patrol" For New Mickey Mouse Sculpture Release From the Walt Disney Classics
Collection
It's Mickey Mouse to the Rescue in New Sculpture Derived From Walt Disney's 1934 Classic
Animated Short The Dognapper
It's Mickey Mouse to the rescue as a confident police officer determined to find the culprit who kidnapped Minnie Mouse's dog Fifi in an all-new sculpture release from the Walt Disney Classics Collection. Taken from Walt Disney's 1934 classic animated short The Dognapper, the sculpture has been produced in hues of black, white and gray, just like the original film itself. Entitled "Mickey Mouse: On Patrol" the new sculpture debuts at authorized Walt Disney Classics Collection retailer locations nationwide in May 2002.
As created by famed Disney sculptor Blaise Gauba, Mickey is the picture of justice, honesty and integrity as he rides at the helm of his 1930s style police motorcycle, complete with sidecar. The vintage look of the sculpture is complemented by Mickey's signature 1930s button-eyes. The sculpture stands 5 1/2 inches high and showcases such "plussing" elements as a sturdy metal tail. Grafted in fine porcelain "Mickey Mouse: On Patrol" features a suggested retail price of $135 US ($204 Canada).
The Dognapper was originally released on November 17, 1934. The film is a classic example of the black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons of the early 1930s, before the rise of fellow Disney animated stars such as Donald Duck and Goofy. The film co-stars Mickey's true love, Minnie Mouse and his longtime nemesis, the menacing Pegleg Pete.
The film also feature Fifi, a mischievous little brown dog with black ears that often appeared onscreen as Pluto's girlfriend. In addition to The Dognapper, Fifi also made appearances in Puppy Love (debut film in 1933), Pluto's Quin-Puplets (1937), Society Dog Show (1939) and a rare Disney animated commercial entitled Mickey's Surprise Party (1939).
The Walt Disney Classics Collection is renowned for its faithful recreation of unforgettable moments from Disney's animated films. The collection features a broad array of sculptures ranging in suggested retail price from $50 to more than $2,000. Each sculpture is crafted out of fine porcelain or resin and is hand-painted according to the film's original color palettes. Sculptures are often enhanced with mixed materials such as precious metals, stones, pearls and crystals.
The collection is developed and distributed by Walt Disney Art Classics, which also administrates the popular Walt Disney Collectors Society in addition to overseeing the Disney Showcase Collection (a portfolio of high-end licensed Disney collectibles) along with the company's animation art portfolios. The Walt Disney Classics Collection is available at fine gift and collectible stores and galleries, select Disney Stores and the Disney Theme Parks around the world.
