Disney: Thank you Matt. Thank you. It is a pleasure to be here today as we recognize these exceptional young people and the fantastic work theyve done. When it comes to environmental issues there is always a lot going on with the Walt Disney Company. For almost half a century weve dedicated ourselves to preserving and protecting our environment and in the years ahead we will continue striving to be responsible corporate citizens true to the heritage of our company and our country.
The remarkable young people that were honoring today set out to preserve an important natural resource in their community, the grasslands ecological area located near Los Banos. This 180,000 acre ecosystem is home to millions of migratory birds. (and one just flew over, I think). Travelling along the Pacific flyway it has been internationally recognized as a globally important bird area by the National Audubon Society.
Early on in their project they learned that the protection of this area was crucial not only to their community but to our global ecosystem as well. So they wasted no time in coming up with inventive and imaginative ways to help preserve the wetlands. For example they learned that whatever is dumped into storm drains goes directly into the wetlands. As you can imagine it didnt take long for these bright young people to conclude they had to take some bold steps to stop people from putting trash and other hazardous materials into the storm drains.
Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore interrupts the proceedings.

A stout Ranger interrupts, "Excuse me!" "Yes," Mr. Disney responds. The Ranger whom Disney fans recognize as J. Audubon Woodlore continues, "Sorry Mr. Disney I dont mean to interrupt but as chief supervising head park ranger here I am compelled to say that your last comment really hit home."
