Disney Cruise Line Caribbean Cruise - Part 6

The adult’s beach is home to the Air Bar, which saw a steady stream of visitors all day. I can heartily recommend the island’s "favourite" cocktail, the Rum Rudder, which was simply knockout. The beach is also lined with several open cabanas, offering a whole host of tempting massage services and a spectacular view over the water, operated by the Vista Spa staff. This simply is paradise.

Naturally, the biggest queue for the day was the barbeque for lunch. The on-board catering crew had debunked to the island to serve guests flame-grilled cuisine from burgers and lobster to veggie delights and sweet corn-on-the-cob. The food was typically plentiful and enjoyable, if not a mild struggle against the searing outdoor temperature. How the cast operated in the blistering sun, hovering over BBQs all day I do not know.

The island is about relaxation and the setting is stunning and serene. We left our bike rental until the end of the day and quickly realised that by 5pm, most of the island was deserted. A refreshing light rain had fallen and driven guests back onboard the Magic. We took our bicycles and rode down the runway, back towards the adult beach and the cycle path that flanked the beach. It was considerable fun and the light rain was cooling as we pedalled hard to make the most of the cycles until we had to return to the ship.

We took the last thirty minutes onshore to walk around and take in the surroundings without the hustle and bustle of guests, discovering many hidden gems like the Head’s Up Bar on the pier, replete with giant pelicans. We rapidly came to the conclusion that the island was simply perfection. We had barely given the island a second thought when planning the vacation. However, it was one of the most memorable days ever for both of us. It really is the jewel in the crown for the DCL and probably the best of Disney’s created escapist environments. The cast deserve to be immensely proud about this touch of beauty in the Bahamas.

After a few tears, we finally managed to drag our feet (and bodies) back onto the Magic. A rather serious contemplation of what would happen if we got left behind (the conclusion? Waiting until the Wonder arrived the next day! Castaway Cay for just us for the night!!).

The final night’s entertainment was a variety show called Farewell. The show was entertaining with various comics, musical performers and the dancers from the Theatre, but it lacked the punch of the previous night’s Disney Dreams. This show is the centrepiece of the entertainment offerings onboard the DCL. The show centres on a young girl who does not want to sleep and is waiting for Peter Pan, mimicking the role of Wendy. Eventually, her hero appears and whisks her off to see other famous Disney characters. The show is vastly entertaining and aimed firmly at the family audience, in contrast to the humour skewed towards the adults in the Hercules musical earlier in the week. The production values are strong and the cast obviously revelled in the host of Disney torch songs that they belted out into the packed auditorium.
