Disney Wonder Arrives In Port

Two Ships together for one Magical Moment!

Thousands celebrated the arrival of Disney Cruise Line's second ship, the Disney Wonder, today, as she entered her homeport of Port Canaveral, Fla. The classic ocean liner was led into port by her older "sister," the Disney Magic, marking the first time both ships have sailed together. The two 83,000-ton ships were surrounded by a flotilla of 80 boats and welcomed by thousands of well-wishers waving enlarged Mickey gloves.

Jeff Bishop, 25, of Clermont, Fla., took time off from work to welcome the ships. "I drove an hour and a half just to see the two ships together, and it was definitely worth it! It's an amazing sight."

The Disney Wonder arrives in Port Canaveral directly from her first public appearance at the Port of Southampton immediately after leaving the shipyard in Venice, Italy. The ship's visit was the first time a Disney ship has called on a European port and officially kicked off the Disney Wonder's inaugural festivities.

"This is a very special time for our company," explained Matt Ouimet, president of Disney Cruise Line. "Not only are we welcoming the Disney Wonder home, we have just celebrated a remarkably successful first year for the Disney Magic."

The Disney Wonder will sail on her maiden voyage on August 15, with departures every Sunday and Thursday. Like her sister, the ship will sail round-trip from Port Canaveral to the Port of Nassau and to Disney's private Bahamian island, Castaway Cay.

The world's top designers, including renowned restaurant designer Adam Tihany and celebrated glass blower Dale Chihuly, were assembled to create the Disney Wonder, a modern classic in her own right. The art nouveau interior includes new adult nightclubs, new restaurants and a striking new lobby taking inspiration from Disney's animated classic, "The Little Mermaid."

Like the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder is purpose-built, specifically designed to meet the unique vacation needs of children, families and adults. Both ships feature rotation dining, staterooms 25% larger than the industry average, original Broadway-style entertainment and more children's programming than any other ship afloat.

The Disney Cruise Line vacation is a seven-day vacation that includes three or four days at the Walt Disney World Resort followed by a three- or four-day cruise (Cruise-only also available). Both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sail round-trip from Port Canaveral, Fla., to the Port of Nassau and Castaway Cay, Disney's private Bahamian island paradise. The Disney Wonder will enter service August 15, 1999.
