New Latin-themed Party Disc Highlights Favorite Pop Hits, a Bonus Track From the New Menudo -- MDO -- and Introduces the First Teen Artist to Be Signed to the Label Ever -- 13-Year-Old Singing Sensation Myra
Mickey's got the Latin beat with this all-new ultimate Latin dance party album!
Available at retail May 23, 2000, "La Vida Mickey" includes 14 "caliente" tracks featuring interpretations of today's most popular Latin hits like "Livin' La Vida Loca," "Bailamos" and "Cup of Life," plus the hit "Disney Mambo No. 5" by international superstar Lou Bega.
The rhythm's gonna get you with Latin favorites like "Oye Como Va," "Guantanamera" and "La Bamba" -- and original new songs like "Enrique, Ricky and Mickey" and "Vamos." "La Vida Mickey" also features a newly recorded track by Latin American group MDO and a dazzling debut performance from 13-year-old singing phenomenon Myra.
The legendary group MDO, formerly known as Menudo, is still going strong after 21 years in existence and more than 20 million albums sold. The group became the first Latin American pop group to break language barriers in the United States and has become the greatest musical phenomenon in the history of all Latin America.
MDO takes part in the "La Vida Mickey" fiesta with a newly recorded track for the album, "Magic Carpet Ride." Songwriter Desmond Child ("La Vida Loca" -- Ricky Martin) created the new English lyrics for "Magic Carpet Ride," which was based on the popular Spanish MDO song "Baila La Rumba."
Also adding to the excitement is talented newcomer Myra. "She's got it! She's a star!," said Narada Michael Walden after cutting the track "Magic Carpet Ride," a remake of the Steppenwolf classic and Myra's debut single on "La Vida Mickey." High praise coming from someone who has produced multi-platinum hits for the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin. Even more impressive when you consider the talent is coming from someone who is a mere 13 years old! "La Vida Mickey" dances into retail May 23, 2000, for a suggested retail price of $9.98 for cassette; CD prices will vary at retail. The leader in family audio entertainment is now expanding into the exploding teen pop marketplace with its own artist--13-year-old singing sensation Myra. "We are thrilled to announce the signing of our first artist, Myra," said Jay Landers, Sr. VP, A&R, Walt Disney Records. "We intend to fully develop and promote her career as an artist--not just a teen star, but a long-term artist. Myra will be working with many of the industry's top songwriters and producers that have been responsible for the successes of Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and `N Sync.
Her talents are multi-media ready and are well-suited to embrace and utilize the synergistic opportunities available at Disney such as Radio Disney, The Disney Channel, Home Video, films, Theme Parks, video games and the Internet."
