Jerry Bruckheimer Pictures Signs on For Three More Years With The Walt Disney Studios
Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of such blockbuster films as ARMAGEDDON, CONAIR and THE ROCK, has signed an agreement that extends his production deal with The Walt Disney Studios (TWDS) for another three years, it was announced today by Peter Schneider, Chairman of TWDS. Through his company, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, the producer will continue making features for Disney through 2003.
"Jerry is one of the greatest and most successful feature film producers of our time," said Schneider. "Not only has he single handedly set the standard for what we expect from 'action' pictures, he continues to raise the bar each and every time."
"I'm delighted we're extending our relationship with Disney," added Bruckheimer. "We've made some great movies together and I'm looking forward to three more years with Michael (Eisner), Peter, Dick (Cook) and all the other wonderful people there."
Currently, Disney has three Bruckheimer films on its slate -- two under the Touchstone Pictures banner and one under Walt Disney Pictures. Set for an August 4th release on Touchstone is romantic comedy COYOTE UGLY, the story of a 21-year-old pursuing her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter in Manhattan.
In addition, Disney and Bruckheimer began production in early April on another Touchstone project, PEARL HARBOR, directed by Michael Bay (BAD BOYS, THE ROCK, ARMEGEDDON). Following the lives of two daring young pilots who grew up like brothers, and a beautiful courageous nurse they both come to love, PEARL HARBOR is a story of love and heroism on an epic level. The film opens Memorial Day 2001.
Walt Disney Pictures will release another Bruckheimer feature, REMEMBER THE TITANS starring Denzel Washington, on September 29, 2000. The film was inspired by the true story of the integration of a high school football team in Virginia -- and the two coaches who first clashed, then led the team to glory.
"The fact that we're able to release such a wonderfully diverse selection of Jerry Bruckheimer-branded films under both our Touchstone and Disney labels is exciting and unique," continued Schneider. "We are so proud to be working with him and his dynamic team and are looking forward to another three years of success together."
Bruckheimer's other film credits include FLASHDANCE, BEVERLY HILLS COP, TOP GUN, BAD BOYS, DANGEROUS MINDS, CRIMSON TIDE, ENEMY OF THE STATE and GONE IN 60 SECONDS, among others.
