Iowa City, Iowa Coach wins Disney's 'Remember the Titans' Coaches Challenge
Winning Coach in Disney's 'Remember the Titans' Coaches Challenge To Be Honored at Homecoming Pep Rally Friday in Iowa City
Coach Greg Brown, the sophomore football coach at City High School in Iowa City, Iowa, has been named the winner of the "Remember the Titans" Coaches Challenge Contest. Coach Brown, whose City High Little Hawks have won their conference in four of the last five seasons, was chosen when members of his team voted for him in the online Coaches Challenge. For being selected, Coach Brown and each member of his team will be awarded sportswear from Russell Athletic and passes to see Walt Disney Pictures' "Remember the Titans."
"I couldn't be more honored," said Brown, whose team is currently 5-0. "I've got a great group of guys -- real strong young men, both on the field and off, and I'm honored that they all thought enough of me to get me this honor. They're a special group of kids and I think this says more about them than it does about me."
Out of more than 1500 coaches nominated, Brown received the most votes. Before coaching the Little Hawks to victory, Brown was once himself a student at City High, where he was an all-state running back playing under his father, Coach Larry Brown. The elder Brown, now in his 33rd year of coaching the Varsity Little Hawks, is the most successful coach in the midwest, having won the state championship in three of the last eight years. Greg Brown went on to play defensive back at the University of Iowa under Coach Hayden Fry, who the hit television series "Coach" was based on.
Coach Brown will be honored by Disney during a pep rally on Friday, October 6th, as the team gears up for the big Homecoming game against Dubuque Hempstead. Representing Disney will be Lance V. Porter, Director of Internet Marketing for Buena Vista Pictures Marketing, and Lisa Bay Vogelbacker, Administrator of National Promotions. Also attending will be a representative from Russell Athletic.
