Disney Channel new Halloween movie and tips

Disney Channel Gears Up for Halloween and the Premiere of Its Original Movie, Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire, With Ten Trick or Treating Safety Tips for Kids

10. Take a parent or a responsible adult along with you when you go trick or treating. If you are old enough to go without an adult, always go with at least one friend.

9. Check the weather forecast before heading out for the night. Autumn weather tends to be a bit unpredictable, and you want to make sure you are dressed appropriately so you don't get sick or feel uncomfortable.

8. Only accept treats at the doorway, especially if you are unfamiliar with a house or the people who live there. Never go inside a stranger's home.

7. Carry a flashlight with you, not only so you can see, but also so drivers can see you. Line dark costumes with reflective tape to aid motorists, as well.

6. Make sure your costume, especially those with masks, allow you to see, move and breathe freely and comfortably.

5. Only cross streets at intersections and/or lights, and always cross at the appropriate time. Never step out into a street without first looking both ways.

4. Avoid guns that look real. Toy guns should be lined with a bright orange strip and topped with a matching orange cap. Additionally, to avoid injury, swords, knives or other related costume accessories should be made only of soft, flexible materials.

3. Do not play with fire, and beware of potential fire hazards. In case of an emergency, have your parents teach you the ``stop, drop & roll'' technique for extinguishing fire from clothing.

2. Inspect or have your parents inspect all candy and treats prior to eating them. Do not eat anything that looks like it may have been tampered with in any way. When in doubt, throw it away. Avoid eating fruit or any other treats that are not individually wrapped unless they are given to you by someone you know.

1. NEVER, EVER SET YOUR MOM UP ON A DATE WITH A VAMPIRE! This Halloween, tune in to DISNEY CHANNEL's new original movie, Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire, Premiering Friday, October 13, 7PM ET/PT
