ABC.com Provides 50/50 Lifelines to Participants in ABC and McDonald's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" Game Promotion Campaign Will Feature Prizes Of Up To $1 MillionABC.com, a part of the Walt Disney Internet Group, will play a focal part of ABC Television Network and McDonald's upcoming "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" game promotion by providing a 50/50 Lifeline that could help players win cash prizes of as much as $1 million.
The national promotion, extending from April 19 to May 17, will feature a sweepstakes in which every scratch-off game card could produce a prize of either cash or food. For the first time in lottery/sweepstakes history, the opportunity exists to win cash instantly on every game card.
The game cards will prompt customers to log on to ABC.com to access a 50/50 Lifeline if they need assistance in answering the question. Players typing in a four-digit code found on their game cards will have two incorrect answers eliminated on their ABC.com screen. An ABC.com home page promotional button will send visitors to pages promoting the game and lifeline.
The game offers players a chance at winning many prizes, including cash from $1 to $1 million, as well as food prizes. The game is available at 14,000 participating McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. and Canada, while supplies last.
Game cards, featuring authentic "Millionaire" questions from the writers of the hit show, will be included with each order of medium, large and Super Size(TM) fries. Players can also see the official rules at www.mcdonalds.com to find out how to get a free game piece. To play the game, customers rub off the question, then rub off the square below one of four provided answers. If the correct answer is selected, customers rub off one square in the prize section to learn what they have won.
The "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" campaign will be supported by national television spots on ABC, as well as print, Internet and in-store components.
"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," which debuted on the ABC Television Network on August 16, 1999, became a regular primetime series in January, 2000. Since becoming a regular series, "Millionaire" has been seen by 85% of the American viewing public - representing some 220 million viewers.
ABC.com's "Millionaire" game, one of the most popular features on the Web, boasts hundreds of new questions each month as well as lifelines, including Phone-a-Friend advice from actual top prizewinners. It has been played more than 200 million times, and more than 1 billion views have been served.
Additionally, viewers can play ABC.com's HotSeat Draw3 game on www.abc.com and accumulate points based on the performance of three randomly selected on-air contestants. Prizes are awarded for the most points at the end of each telecast and a grand prize is won at the end of each month for highest total score (see official rules at www.abc.com). The site's Fastest Finger feature is a timed event that tests fans' trivia skills and hand/eye coordination.
When "Millionaire" is telecast on ABC, viewers at home can play along with contestants by logging on to www.abc.com and playing the Enhanced TV version of "Millionaire," which runs in real time in conjunction with the show's airing.
