Festival" Award At the International Web Page Awards
Award recognizes the best Web page created in 2000
Disney.com also wins "Best of Category" for Entertainment; Disney.com, ESPN.com and Mr. Showbiz/Wall of Sound/Movies.com take home "Creative Excellence Awards"
Disney Online last night was awarded the "Best of Festival" award, "Best of Category" for entertainment and a "Creative Excellence Award" at the International Web Page Awards ceremony.
The "Best of Festival" award recognizes the best Web page created in 2000, focusing on outstanding Internet graphic design and creativity. Disney was recognized for its virtual theme park home page. There were more than 700 entries for this award.
"Walt Disney is synonymous with quality and creativity and it is our goal to push that envelope online," said Ken Goldstein, executive vice president and managing director of Disney Online. "Family entertainment is all about storytelling, creating memories, and sharing special moments - our site is all about that, about our Guests and their enjoyment. We are very proud and pleased that those efforts have been recognized."
Reminiscent of the popular Disney theme parks, the entrance to Disney.com visually greets visitors with six different "neighborhoods" -- much like the familiar themed areas found in the Magic Kingdom at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Each neighborhood offers different types of entertainment that cater to family members. Guests will find The Zeether and Playhouse for older and younger kids respectively, Studio and Fun for Families for visitors of all ages, and Shopping and Vacations primarily for adults. Guests can travel between the neighborhoods via Disney.com's virtual monorail.
In addition, ESPN.com, the leading sports Web site, and Mr. Showbiz/Wall of Sound/Movies.com, sites dedicated to entertainment news and information, won "Creative Excellence Awards".
Designers from 22 different countries competed in the initial stages of the competition and thirty-nine of the award-winning pages were created outside the United States. The International Web Page Awards program was established in 1998. It is the first genuine international forum for Web designers and graphic artists to acknowledge their peers for work done.
