Disney Interactive today announced that the preview game "Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire -- Search for the Journal," the online multi-player preview to the complete action-adventure retail game, "Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire -- Trial by Fire," is available now for free at www.disneyinteractive.com.
The game demo is ideal for broadband users who want to click and play to delve deeper into the Atlantis gaming experience.
In the preview, players start their adventure in Iceland, 13 years before the retail game begins. The action-packed mission is to search for and retrieve the Shepherd's Journal, an ancient book said to reveal the secrets to finding the lost city of Atlantis.
For instant access to the adventure, users simply go to www.disneyinteractive.com and click to play. This process is powered by Into Networks, whose content delivery platform enables software to run in real time over the Internet.
Using the IntoPlayer(TM), visitors are ensured the highest quality streaming experience. The system identifies and monitors each user's network connection to analyze the optimal delivery options and adjusts to each individual's unique connection speed at any given time. This means that users can actually start playing without waiting for the entire game to be delivered.
For optimal results, it is recommended that players access the software using a high-speed cable or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem. The free online version of "Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire -- Search for the Journal" will be available through July 2001.
Disney Interactive has also distributed a CD-ROM version of the prequel through select companies and outlets, including Kellogg USA (specially marked boxes of Kellogg's® Corn Pops cereal feature the prequel inside); Buena Vista Home Entertainment (the DVD release of Walt Disney Pictures' "The Emperor's New Groove" features a separate prequel CD-ROM inside the package); Kodak through Walgreens Photo Center (consumers who bring their film in for development and choose Walgreens Quality Processing receive a prequel CD-ROM with their prints); and Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line (consumers will receive a copy of the prequel at selected locations within the theme parks, resort hotels and cruise ships).
