'Behind The Screams' With Disney/Pixar's 'Monsters, Inc.'
Film Reaches $200 Million Threshold in Record-Breaking 30th Day
Continuing a tradition begun with "A Bug's Life" and "Toy Story 2," Disney/Pixar will present a specially-created group of animated "outtakes" from the record-breaking motion picture hit "Monsters, Inc." in theaters beginning this Friday, December 7, it was announced today December 4, by Richard Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, and John Lasseter, executive producer of "Monsters, Inc." and executive vice president of creative for Pixar Animation Studios. The fourth film from Disney/Pixar, "Monsters, Inc." has now grossed $204 million at the box office, and set another record Saturday, when it became the fastest animated film to reach the $200 million mark, crossing the threshold in its 30th day of release. The "outtakes," which play along with the end credits of the film, feature the lead characters in various "behind-the-screams" situations. Sulley, Mike, and the other characters from "Monsters, Inc." make appearances, voiced by John Goodman, Billy Crystal, and the rest of the original talent from the film.
Commenting on the announcement, Cook said, "Audiences have responded to 'Monsters, Inc.' and made it one of the biggest hits of the year, and we thought it would be fun to give them something extra: a set of animated 'outtakes.' Director Pete Docter, executive producer John Lasseter, and the rest of the gang have put the 'Monsters' characters into some really hilarious situations, and they provide another great reason to see this hit movie again."
Lasseter added, "Animated 'outtakes' have become a signature of Pixar's films. We pioneered animated outtakes with 'A Bug's Life' and 'Toy Story 2,' and with 'Monsters, Inc.' we couldn't resist doing them again. They're as much fun to create as they are to watch."
Audiences will be able to download a sneak preview of the "outtakes" beginning Friday at www.monstersinc.com and www.apple.com/trailers.
From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of "Toy Story" comes this hilarious new computer-animated feature that opens the door to a world of monsters and mayhem and scares up lots of laughs in the process. Monsters, Inc. is the largest scare factory in the monster world and the top kid Scarer is James P. Sullivan (John Goodman), a huge, intimidating monster with blue fur, large purple spots and horns, known as "Sulley" to his friends. His Scare Assistant, best friend and roommate is Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), a lime green, opinionated, feisty, one-eyed monster. Scaring children isn't such an easy job, as monsters believe children are toxic and that direct contact with them would be catastrophic. The film's eclectic cast of characters also includes the factory's crab-like CEO Henry J. Waternoose (James Coburn), the beguiling serpent-haired receptionist Celia (Jennifer Tilly), and the sarcastic chameleon monster, Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi), who schemes to replace Sulley as Monsters, Inc.'s top Scarer. Visiting from the human world is Boo (Mary Gibbs), a tiny girl who turns the monster world upside down.
