New Independent Retailer Exclusive Sculpture Derived From Walt Disney's 1941 Classic Animated Short The Nifty Nineties

The charm of tum-of-the-century femininity is perfectly captured in "Lovely Lady," an all new Walt Disney Classics Collection sculpture depicting the ever-adorable Minnie Mouse from the classic 1941 Walt Disney animated short The Nifty Nineties.

Released as a companion sculpture to "A Perfect Gent," starring Mickey Mouse, the new sculpture is an Independent Retailer Exclusive Sculpture, limited to production year 2002 ("A Perfect Gent" was limited to production year 2001). "Lovely Lady" debuted earlier this year at authorized retailer locations worldwide.

As created by famed Disney sculptor Blaise Gauba, coquettish Minnie is dressed in her best 1890s finery that guarantees that "a perfect gent" named Mickey will be "taken by surprise by a pair of roguish eyes while strolling in the park." As depicted in the film, Minnie coyly drops her frilly hankie with all the style, finesse and determination befitting a genteel lady with a young mouse's affections in mind. With a flash of her eyes and demure smile, Minnie wins Mickey's attention - - and heart.

The sculpture, standing 5 V4" high, accurately conveys the unique visual style of Disney cartoons of the early 1940s - - oversized head, hands and feet, with ears that are more angular in shape. The sculpture includes such plussing elements as a bronze umbrella handle. Grafted in fine porcelain "Lovely Lady" features a US suggested retail price of $95 ($144 Canadian).

Walt Disney Classics Collection collectors who already have Mickey Mouse from The Nifty Nineties will want to "play matchmaker" and complete this irresistible couple. With her beguiling pose, Minnie is the perfect complement to the dashing Mickey behaving as "A Perfect Gent."

The Opening Title scroll for The Nifty Nineties (Height: 1 3/5"), also available now, is limited to production year 2002. The title scroll features a US suggested retail price of $29 ($45 Canadian).

Facts :

The Nifty Nineties was originally released on June 20, 1941. The cartoon is a favorite among Disney film enthusiasts not only for its charming visuals and personality animation but also because of its numerous inside jokes. Disney history fans instantly recognize caricatures of famed Disney animators Ward Kimball and Fred Moore as "Fred and Ward: Two Clever Boys From Dlinois," the main act Mickey and Minnie see at the local vaudeville house.

Additionally, clever eyes will find the following advertisements on the main curtain of the vaudeville theater:

  • See Wilfred Jaxon For Feed & Fuel
For over 30 years Wilfred Jackson was a famed animator, director and producer for Disney, including work as a sequence director on 11 classic Disney animated features.
  • " Walter D 's For Hats That Please
This is an obvious nod to the boss, Walt Disney, who as a young artist produced in-theater advertisements.
  • Rilev 's Livery Stable
A clever nod to the director of The Nifty Nineties - - Riley Thompson.
  • The Famous T. Hee Shoes: The Sensation in Footwear
    T. Hee was a renowned Disney animation director, caricaturist, stylist and storyman.
  • Gen. J. Sharpsteen - Dentist
Ben Sharpsteen was a respected 30-year veteran of the Disney Studios, working as a sequence director and supervising director on several classic Disney animated features as well as several award-winning True-Life Adventures.
  • Prof. Churchill — Piano's Tuned
Composer who joined the Disney staff in 1930 and wrote the music for many of Disney's Silly Symphony cartoons in addition to The Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Bambi.
