Carolwood Pacific Historical Society Announces Imagineering Appreciation Day
Carolwood Pacific Historical Society (CPHS) Announces Imagineering Appreciation Day
When referring to his entertainment empire, Walt Disney liked to say, "It all started with a mouse." Many who know the history of Walt Disney Imagineering realize "it all started in a barn." On Sunday, April 21, between 11 am and 3 pm, the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society (CPHS) is hosting "Imagineering Appreciation Day," a gathering of past and present Imagineers at the "birthplace" of it all-Walt's Carolwood Barn.
2002 marks the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney Imagineering and is the celebration year of Walt's centennial. CPHS will honor those who were responsible for conceiving, designing and building Disneyland and provide a rare opportunity for the public to meet those who create the Magic of Disney and are known as Imagineers. Admission and parking are free.
In 1999, under sponsorship of the Walt Disney Family Foundation, the Barn was relocated by the CPHS from its original location in the backyard of the Disney family's home at 355 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills area of West Los Angeles.
Imagineer Legend Bill Evans provided landscaping design as he did when Carolwood was originally developed in 1950. Imagineer Michelle Sullivan supported him in the Barn landscaping project. Veteran Disney Architect John Cowles provided architectural consulting to CPHS Governor and Architect Miguel Fernandez. Walter E. Disney Miller represented his family during the construction phase and continues as president of the Foundation serving as the contact for CPHS.
Walt's Barn is located at the east end of the Los Angeles
Live Steamers area in Griffith Park about one-half mile east of Travel Town at 5202 Zoo
Drive between Victory Boulevard and Forest Lawn Drive off the 134 Freeway. A direction map
is available on the Internet at www.carolwood.com
