Love's First Kiss

Magic and Romance Combine in "Love's
First Kiss" from the Walt Disney Classics Collection
New Gold Circle Retailer Exclusive Sculpture Depicts Defining Moment From Walt
Disney's Sleeping Beauty
For centuries artists have strived to bring the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty to life, either through literature, theater, music or ballet. Perhaps the most famous and enduring of these adaptations is Walt Disney's animated film version, based upon Charles Perrault's version of the tale.
The Walt Disney Classics Collection honors Sleeping Beauty in its own way with an exquisite new sculpture entitled "Love's First Kiss." Created by renowned Disney sculptor Dusty Homer, the charming sculpture depicts the lovely Princess Aurora as she "lies in somber repose" while the handsome and brave Prince Phillip leans in to break the evil spell with "Love's First Kiss."
"We are confident that 'Love's First Kiss' will be cherished by collectors," said Lee Zoppa, director of Walt Disney Art Classics, the fine art and collectibles division of The Walt Disney Company. "We know that collectors admire the elegance and distinctive look of the film and its truly memorable characters; therefore, we are very proud to announce that 'Love's First Kiss' is our 2002 Walt Disney Classics Collection Gold Circle Retailer Exclusive Sculpture. The sculpture will be offered in a numbered limited edition of 1,959 to represent the year the movie originally premiered."
"Love's First Kiss" continues the Walt Disney Classics Collection tradition of "plussing" pieces to enhance the believability and detail of each piece. For example, added elements include a pewter rose stem and twinkling glass jewels. The sculpture, which stands 7 3/4" high, also features an intricate design trim of shimmering gold paint around Aurora's satin pillow, royal bed and ornately decorated blanket. The piece will be available in March 2002 at authorized Walt Disney Classics Collection Gold Circle Retailer locations for a US suggested retail price of $450 ($676 Canadian).
Originally released on January 29, 1959, "Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty was both a commercial and critical success, garnering numerous awards and accolades including an Academy Award® nomination for Best Scoring of a Musical Motion Picture. The film was also honored with the Parents Magazine Medal Award, Southern California Motion Picture Council - Certificate of Achievement, Thomas Alva Edison Foundation - Best Children's Film. The film also inspired the world famous Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland® in Anaheim, California - - perhaps one of the most photographed icons of the 20th century.
