Even More Magic in Store for Guests At Walt Disney World Resort This Summer
New Attractions, New Shows and Special Resort Values
With the 100 Years of Magic celebration in full swing, Walt Disney World officials today announced a summer line-up of great new attractions and entertainment plus continued special seasonal rates at all categories of Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
"Our 100 Years of Magic celebration has already proven to be extraordinarily popular with our guests," said Walt Disney World President Al Weiss. "And now we're pulling out all the stops to create the most magical summer ever at Walt Disney World."
Here's some of what guests can experience this summer at Walt Disney World Resort:
- 100 Years of Magic, the most popular Walt Disney World celebration yet, includes "Walt Disney: One Man's Dream," a walk-through attraction showcasing rare memorabilia from the Disney archives, and The Sorcerer's Hat, a 122-foot- tall icon celebrating Disney magic and entertainment wizardry. Plus, guests will find four spectacular parades celebrating Walt's creativity -- "Mickey's Jammin' Jungle" at Disney's Animal Kingdom, "Disney Stars and Motor Cars" at Disney-MGM Studios, "Share a Dream Come True" at the Magic Kingdom and "Tapestry of Dreams" at Epcot.
- A dino-mite new coaster, Primeval Whirl, completes the Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama! "mini-land" at Disney's Animal Kingdom. "Time machines" transport guests through curves, plunges and the jaws of a dinosaur skeleton spinning wildly along the way. This colorful coaster takes guests on a wacky journey to prehistoric times with loads of laughs along the way.
- The 2002 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is in full bloom with colorful gardens, seminars with horticultural experts, and musical fun now through June 2, 2002. Some special events within the festival: the Mother's Day Invitational Flower Show (May 10-12) and Kids Weekend (May 24-27). And guests shouldn't miss the Flower Power concert series featuring memorable acts from the '60s and '70s. The 2002 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is included with Epcot admission.
- Figment, the lovable purple dragon, returns to the Journey Into Imagination attraction at Epcot. The enhanced attraction, presented by Kodak, is scheduled to reopen in early June as Journey Into Imagination with Figment. The free-spirited Figment will join the practical Dr. Nigel Channing to lead guests on a journey that will engage their imaginations and their senses.
- Downtown Disney Marketplace offers even more magical experiences for guests with the July opening of Once Upon a Toy, a 16,000-square-foot interactive superstore. The store will be filled with colorful displays and exclusive toys, including many Disney and Hasbro favorites. Children can enjoy an outside interactive play area.
- From the creator of the Tony(R) Award-winning Broadway hit Blast! comes SHOCKWAVE. Last year, critics hailed Blast! as "rhythmically intoxicating" with "sound and motion from front to finish" and this year SHOCKWAVE promises to bring an all-new combination of raw power and musical pageantry to Epcot from June 15 through Aug. 23. This dazzling performance is filled with sights, sounds and boundless energy -- all included in Epcot admission.
And while the attractions and entertainment may be new, one thing won't be changing at Walt Disney World Resort this summer -- the price of admission. Current one-day, one-park tickets are $48, $38 ages 3-9.
"Here at Walt Disney World, we will not raise ticket prices this summer," Weiss said. "While our business continues to improve, we realize that the soft economy has had an impact on many families. So we're doing all we can to remind them that Walt Disney World remains an outstanding vacation value."
With that in mind, Walt Disney World Resort will continue to offer special room rates at Disney's value, moderate and deluxe accommodations. For instance, most nights from June 23 to Aug. 24, 2002:
- Guests can stay at a value resort, such as Disney's All-Star Music Resort, for $74 per night -- a savings of $25 on the non-discount summer rate.
- Guests can stay at a moderate resort, such as Disney's Port Orleans Resort, for $94 per night -- a savings of $60 on the non-discount summer rate.
- Guests can stay at a deluxe resort, such as Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, for $139 per night -- a savings of $100 on the non-discount summer rate.
(Room rates do not include tax. The number of rooms available at these rates is limited, and rooms must be booked by May 19.)
"With so many new shows and attractions, our spectacular 100 Years of Magic celebration and extra value on hotels rooms," Weiss said, "there has never been a better summer to visit Walt Disney World."
